Hi Shag that is a really good one, but my favourites are
Dave Gilmore’s second solo in Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb
Michael Schenker’s solo on Rock Bottom on UFO’s Strangers in the Night live album
And Alex Lifeson’s guitar masterpiece La Villa Strangiato by Rush |

"Or how gary holds the note in parisienne walkway "
I’m still working on perfecting that. And I still can’t do the run down after getting the feedback to cut in. |

Tough one..But up these come to mind immediately. Good guitar solo isn't haw fast but how it flows with the music, so no Satriani or Vai in my list....
Dave Gilmore - Comfortably Numb from Pulse
Alex Lifeson - Xanadu from Exit Stage Left
Daryl Stuermer - Inside Out from But Seriously Live. |

"So many to choose from and definitely depends what I'm in the mood for but love some Satriani or Jan Akkerman."
Glad to see a mention of Jan Akkerman. I'm going to throw in Robert Fripp, never been a huge public name, and even in his own band King Crimson he prefers to sit at the back and just play with no on-stage theatrics. Hard to pick out any particular tracks, but Fracture and Starless have pretty incredible guitar work. And then there's a huge amount of session work that Fripp did with other bands giving them a sound that just couldn't have happened without him. Bowie's Heroes - that amazing guitar that raises the track from good to blows your socks off - that's Robert Fripp. |

Gary Moore bought the famous ‘Greeny’ 1959 Les Paul from Peter Green when the latter quit the music business in the 70s |

As a guitarist myself I have Themis discussion with fellow musicians a lot and I always shocked people always mention old school guitarist but never recent ones.
Personally I don’t enjoy a lot of old school I appreciate it but don’t think wow it’s amazing which always shocks people
But my greats are:
Edge u2 the stuff he does is wow
Graham coxon blur he is amazing with change and style along with experimental
Johnny greenwood Radiohead amazing and so skilled
James Dean Bradfield manics one of my all time greats every song is lead guitar perfect
Matt Bellamy muse again amazing and so skilled

My favourite guitar solo is the one in Hello by Lionel Richie, not fast or technically complex there's just something magical about it.
On a more technical level I really like Satriani's Flying in a Blue Dream.

the track "hello"- yes it's really tasteful and understated.
There's a track by Suzanne Vega called "left of centre" - there's a really tasteful solo on that track too. (don't know who played it though)

Albert king for an all in voice song and guitar expression. A good filling sound.
Roy Buchanan for what he can do with a telecaster. It's a bit alien but accomplished.
Gilmour for finding that sound.

Some great shouts so far. I usually contribute to these threads with something from one of the usual suspects, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Peter Green. Tonight I’m going to give a mention to Danny Kirwan. One of the 5 original members of Fleetwood Mac who doesn’t get as much recognition as Peter Green but is no less worthy. A track he wrote for the band called Something Inside of Me highlights his guitar skills. Sadly no longer with us R I P. |

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’ |
Van Halen - Eddie Van Halen (EVH) - Eruption.
It's got to be him as he re-purposes builds his guitars from different guitar parts, pick ups etc. and saws them up to get a different sound! The red, white, black "Frankenstrat" is the most famous one of his.The Smithsonian had a replica on display in 2015. |

John Sykes - "Still in love with you" on Thin Lizzy's last live album. He surpasses all the different players on the track over the years including the original.
Good to see Lifeson on here too, so underrated. My fav of his is " Between the wheels" |
