The Chinese have completed a brand new hospital containing 1,000 beds, several isolation units and 30 ICU's, approximately 645,000 square feet in total. The entire project took just 10 days.

Perhaps when this coronavirus malarkey's come to an end they can pop over and give us a hand with HS2.

It’s amazing what you can achieve with little Or no regard to health & safety, human rights and a massive mobile workforce.

Or when a whole country pull together in a time of crisis like we did in the wars....

Sometimes there is a “common good” and yes it does have a cost, but is a time of emergency really the right time to delay?

Hypothetically speaking of course, China does have a terrible human rights record, but then so do many others...

my thought is that they could finish off a couple of hospital that apparently will have to wait till 2024 and do hs2 as a weekend project and under budget

I really don't like the idea that there is something great (or terrible) about anything based on its country of origin.

To be fair, with China it is usually the other way around. I am working on a project at the moment that is only necessary because a piece of machinery made in China is full of problems. The design is awful, the quality of materials shickingly terrible though the actual workmanship is adequate.

There is no such thing as 'Chinese Engineering' there is just engineering done by people. Whilst it is true that various countries have very different codes of practice, laws and regulations and these in turn will influence what they produce and how, it isn't true that a nationality gives any indication of a person's level of competence.

Invariably when people compare engineering projects around the world it is done without understanding the comparison or the specific circumstances. I suspect anyone in this country taken to the 10 day hospital would understand why it only took 10 days plus you can guarantee that although the assembly took 10 days it actually took significantly longer to design and make the components.

I hear what you're saying and agree completely but it was just a joke post. Of course projects in certain countries can never be expected to match western standards and it's a fact that if they want anything done that's truly technical they import western engineers.

My eldest was due to fly out to Shanghai for such a project, thank god it was cancelled. Also, apparently, the design and most of the components were from the sars outbreak.

And you know this how exactly? Let me guess you read it in the western media (yes the same western media who have now weaponized Corona Virus to attack China).

Don't believe anything you read in the western media about China or Russia.

I’ve been traveling to China and trading there for over 20 years. In that time I have seen some wonderful things and met many lovely people. Things that really lift your spirit and inspire you. I’ve also seen some terrible things and I’ve walked away from factories that operate poor safety standards.

Not saying we have it right either so please, not so quick to judge.

Don't believe anything you read in the western media about China or Russia."

As far as quality of material goes, when a Chinese spanner or similar tool snapped or rounded off, my dear late father used to call it "case hardened dog sh*t"!!
