How do you define posh?
Where you live?
The school your children attend?
The car you drive?
Your social circle?
The material things you own and the shops you bought them from?
Let’s see if we can find the poshest person on Fab |

"Ah, OP, don’t make the mistake of equating large amounts of money to being classy, well bred or ‘posh’.
I don’t but I know others that do."
Someone said I was posh because we have a south drawing room (as well as a north one) and asked if I had stables. It’s knowing what to say if someone says ‘how d’ye do?’ |

Shit not posh we both come from crappy part's of that London place, both got working class families, lived on council estates...
But we have and do work bloody hard, have nice things and a niceish house all be it very modest.
We have manners and polite.
To some we may seem posh to others complete scum! |

We live in the countryside, in a house with a large anount of land attached, we have Sainsburys deliver our groceries, we drive an Audi, a Ranger and own a big 4 x 4 vehicle. We have nice clothes, have nice holidays and a great social life. We also have our own sucessful business.
Does that make us posh?...
.
.
.
No it does not.
What's more, we wouldn't want to be classed as posh either. |

How do you do.
And I don't have a drawing room at all. That's not posh, that's manners. |

I must be posh as I have a very long driveway. To walk to the end of the drive to put rubbish in the wheelie bin and walk back again takes over 7 minutes, and that is at a brisk pace. |

At school i was classed as posh as lived in a 4 bed detatched house on a new estate. I hated it but now realise with age i am not posh, just a girl whose parents worked bloody hard to provide the best they could for their family. |

I have two houses..... 1 in Devon, 1 in Cornwall
...that doesn't make me posh. I was born and brought up on a council estate, I can still get into an 89' Astra using the strapping from newspapers and start a ford fiesta with a screw driver.....
... I eat olives though, because I am a class traitor |

Am from East Belfast my house growing up didn't even have a indoor toilet till I 9 or 10. Having a pickle egg and a bit of tomato and lettuce with your fish and chips you thought it was posh.
So a big fat zero points |

I don't think I'm posh but my sons say they think I am.
I don't like slang and I speak properly so I think that's where it comes from.
I don't mind if people think I am though |

The people in my office think I am posh but that is because of my home counties accent.
I used to go to school with people who had money that didn't make them posh in many ways it made them arrogant or entitled.

If anyone says that POSH means Port Out Starboard Home for when people have been on a cruise i'll spit ! That's one of those sayings that is made up , passed on and then falls into general usage and people believe it.
You have to differentiate between breeding, old money and new money.
Some think manners and breeding make a person posh and others think wealth makes a person posh.
Maybe you need both. A high quality item that costs thousands is posh.....
An item that costs thousands and is tawdry and vulgar is not posh.... just expensive.

I'm as common as muck.
Honestly, why does it matter if someone is posh? It's not like they automatically assume they are better than you. And yeah, sure, it's a social construct but one that seems to get knickers in a twist. Reverse snobbery is a thing and threads like this show that. |

Never something that has ever bothered me.
I'm not out to impress anyone.
The car I drive, I chose because I like it, and for no other reason. Doesn't bother me what other people think about it.
For the same reason I refuse to drive anything produced by any of the German marques. They do nothing for me.

"Would I be classed as posh if I told you I live alone in a house with 17 rooms, 2 en suite bedrooms plus a main bathroom and an extra toilet making 4 toilets in total. There is a good sized dining room, large living room with log burner and a summer room with a small orangery type roof.
I have a canal in my back garden with my own private 60ft mooring and have 2 integral garages both with electric doors.
I drive a BMW coupe and work for an extremely well known worldwide brand.
Would that be enough to class me as posh because what I think it would class me as is a little stupid with some choices I've made and skint hahaaaa
Posh...meh! What a waste of a life if that's all you aspire to be.
Be good, be kind and be liked by others, now that's what I'd like to be "

I'm not sure you'll work it out through a thread like this either. Social status is always elusive, temporary and performative rather than objectively defined. |

Posh has nothing to do with material things or even money! Posh has nothing to do with how nice or horrible you are ... it's just an upbringing!! It's pretty simple - you can't buy into being posh same as you could live on the streets and still be posh if you were posh |

Posh, as we can see from some of the comments on here, isn't usually a compliment. No idea why doing things differently, living in certain areas or talking a certain way is a bad thing but that's the way it is. People are just people whatever accent they have or car they drive. Someone in an Aston Martin can be just as nice and friendly as someone in a Ford focus of indeed just as nasty.
I worked in a new office briefly and was called "posh totty", not in a nice way. It was because I used cloth napkins instead of paper and proper cutlery instead of plastic. I just smiled and realised just how judgemental people can be.

Posh is a state of mind..
I dought many " posh " people see themselves as posh because they don't know anything else, it's all just natural to them.
In some circles having a wheelie bin that's not been set on fire and a doorbell that works makes them posh snobs...

It seems I maybe one of those non posh posh people or is it one of those people who is posh but not
So here would be my take
Using an idiotic false dichotomy i dont condone
There are so called common
And so called posh (and a vast spectrum between)
They both have positive and negative traits
I hopefully possess a greater proportion of the stereotypical positive traits from both false dichotomy than i do their stereotypical negatives
Does that make me posh hmm naw just fucking awkward |
