You have to cut out the sugar in your diet.

It is the enemy of any diet and to cut it out is the secret for weight loss in general.
I am slowly cutting it out now as I am getting ready for my summer shredding diet, this slow change I do now will let my body know that I mean business.
I have started to not have ketchup, reduced fizzy drinks and treats more will be added soon, do you try and cut it out too?
I have notice that you always get a flu in the first week when you do it. I call it the sugar flu |

I watched a documentary film called sugat, and it was a great eye opener!!
I have been reading a lot into "the carnivore diet", and have to say, it seems to have a lot of benefits.
What's your take on it, if any. |

My take on the carnivore diet is that it can be beneficial in the short term. It's no good cutting food groups and expecting to remain healthy.
I do believe in knowing your ancestry tho. |

Truth! Then you sneak one, next thing the pack is empty. " That is right that is why you have to track and count them so you have that limit lets say 10 to 20 gummy bears would be good not dayily but on the weekends. |

Yes, in short term, definitely. And agree with looking into genetic makeup helps when working out dietry plan. The written material and inteviews I've seen on carnivore diet which shows benefit mostly is when persons have had underlying problems such as thyroid problems, arthritis and lupas...

No sugar means no sugar" That is right too but it is ok to have few as treat but not as often. |

Indeed it does
Although beneficial I recommend that one only punctuates their yearly nutritional strategies with shortish periods of very very low carb ie less than 20 g daily
Although some consider 100 g low I have found that depending on activities to be fairly sustainable
My average is set to 110 g but if I want to drop below a certain fat percentage 30 or less is required |

I wish I had your strength. My biggest weakness is sugar. I've cut down on coca cola over the last couple of weeks but I'd like to get rid of it completely, I just find it so difficult and turn into a right moody bum when I don't have my treats. |

I'm a miserable mare without my treats but it's worth it in the long run.
I find once my mind is focused it's so much easier to achieve.
You'll do it because you want to.

All I suggest is note when your heart rate goes above 130 and for how long
Fat adaptation means fat is primary at higher heart rates yet as the beats go up you will need more carbs

Now that Christmas is long gone & almost all the "treat foods" gone as well, such as chocolate, shortbread biscuits etc, I'm now being more mindful over what I eat. Added sugar is relatively easy for me to cut, but I also keep things like crisps as very occasional treats, and lack of cake will see sugar & fat cuts. If anyone else is looking at reducing sugar, keep away from ready meals - they add sugar to almost everything. |

Just started being vigilant of sugar levels in things.
Been on a diet for 5 weeks and beginning to plateau now after an initial 5kg loss.
Even oats as an example. 12g per 40 serving
Different brand of oats 4g per 40 serving
Muller lights 0/fat loaded with sugar
My slimming world just got harder now having to constantly hum and haw when shopping. |

I think once I've cut the majority of sugar out and got into a routine I'll be fine. I did it a few years ago but that first week with small amounts of sugar is so bloody difficult. It's amazing to see and feel the difference when you finally break free from sugar though! I really need a big kick up my bum! |

If the goal is losing weight then the only requirement is a caloric deficit.
If health is the main issue then yes, refined sugar is best reduced.
If you cut out sugar entirely but don't have a caloric deficit, you won't lose weight. |

Reduce by 10 percent a week
Firstly though assess your true carb intake
Use mfp
A quick guess is you will be over 400 g a day
Take 2 months to get to 150 g

I think they meant macros not macho

Carbs protein fat
For example approx values
Chicken will be
22% p 5 fat and 0 c
Bread is 8% p 1 fat and 70 c
Nuts 28 p 50 f 5 carbs
For good balance it is advisable to consume
33 33 33 as percentage of your daily cal goal
My goal is 1800 cals and thus the above would work out as 600 cals per macro
Thus 150 g carb 150 g protein and 65 g fat
Most will be vastly over eating carbs and fat |

I have been slowly weening myself back off fizzy drinks, energy drinks etc. Still have the odd blip day.
Sugar may be bad. But feck me. Try working in a fish and chip shop for a living. |

I cut all sugar out from Jan 6th and have lost 22lb since then. First week is tough as you’re detoxing and the headaches are epic. I was a Pepsi Max addict so went cold turkey. Had one after a week as a treat and it’s was vile felt like I was drinking pure sugar so it’s amazing how quick your tastes change. Only eating real food and nothing processed and always low carb. Lot to lose but it’s working for me |

I'm not dieting but I've cut my sugar down quite a bit recently. No more Orange squash, Ketchup, Pickle and I only have half a sugar in tea now instead of a heaped spoonful.
The reason I cut down was my mouth was getting very dry and that has helped. |

Odd Pepsi max has no sugar but lots of caffeine theoretically a thermal stimulant
Well done on your weight loss
However for others I strongly do not advise going carb cold Turkey unless you are exceptionally strong willed and understand exactly what you are doing
Progressive change over time will sustain for a lifetime
Statistically most who go hard go home early and fail their long term goal
The 22 lbs is not all fat I'm very sorry to say

As a Diabetic T2, I made a concerted effort to cut out as much sugar last year.
Cut out soft drinks, replacing with sparkling water with maybe lime or lemon juice added. Watchful of what food I ate, gave up on ready meals as salt content can be high too.
Gave up on cakes, biscuits, sweets. Superb help from GP's nurse too with her advice.
Result,three weeks ago, best ever readings, blood sugars down drastically and all under control.
Cholesterol had been at over 8.2, 15 months ago, now down to 3.1, with average of 2.8. Weight not down as much as I wanted, but heading in right direction. |

I have cut my sugar intake quite dramatically, The morning pack of biscuits is no more, likewise the daily pudding as part of my evening meal, No sweets or chocolates in the house.
But, When you have a branch of "Heavenly Desserts" only a couple of miles away how can resist just one visit a week. |

I can lose weight and still eat sugar.
The trick is only eat up to 1500 calories a day Monday to Friday.
Then on the weekend you can eat wat ever you want and still lose weight over all. |

When we diet we don't spend ages tracking different macro groups just calories.
If you're truly honest with your calorie intake (include those in drinks - a mug of hot sweet full fat milk comes in at nearly 300 calories) then it is simple to lose weight. Also, you instinctively eat the right food groups because you pick the ones you can eat the most of for the least amount of calories. Two poached eggs on wholemeal toast and you're around 340 calories but feel full, a pack of crisps and 4 chocolates has the same calories but leaves you hungry. As a result you don't need to spend ages looking at the various numbers when you shop, one number and a decision, can I afford to take that amount of calories for how full this item will make me feel? You automatically start avoiding the ones loaded with sugar, the processed foods and the like as they are always too high in calories.
An active lifestyle, 2000 kcal/day for me and 1800kcal/day for her and we both lost weight steadily and consistently. Upped mine to 2400kcal/day when I reached my target and stabilized nicely except for Christmas but nearly back now with minimal effort. |
