A fair offer, a fair swap ?

I've recently answered the door to two Jehovah's Witnesses, man and woman. A quick chat followed and you could see their eyes positively light up when i invited them in . Soon we were sat down, Fabs on screen in front of us, as i'd been disturbed reading it.
"Well" i said "if you want me to join your organisation i will do so if you will join me and my friends on this organisation." I showed them Fabs and even offered to set them up with their initial profile. To my surprise they promptly declined. And left.
Did i not make a fair offer or what?

They told me they left because you never offered them so much as a cuppa !!

They avoid our house since I stood at the door step for half an hour asking them questions and sharing my views with them, then gave them a couple of books to read.
The conversation was in the watch tower and we haven't been approached since
