Does meditation really help prevent you going batshit crazy?

If memory serves stretching has pros and cons, and isn't always recommended. I use warming up and cooling down, which seems to help with my DOMS/ aches. Protein consumption also helps.

Some of it is unfortunately inevitable.

As I understand it stretching afterwards helps disperse lactic acid that builds up when muscles work. Of course a good massage may be an alternative....

On a slightly more serious note, I do @20 minutes stretching (spinal mobility) routine straight after my 40 mins of cardio and before my 30 mins of weights. I rarely ache afterwards, but if I have an enforced break I start getting bad cramp in my calves.

I cycle to and from my gym to, which is probably a bit of a warm up and a warm down.

I never stretch before a workout.

Do you ever see a lion stretch before they start chasing their prey?

Didnt think so

No stretching after working out doesn’t stop the aches. You eventually learn to appreciate the after work out ache though.

Stretching after a warm up increases your range of motion, increases the blood flow to your muscles and improves your posture.

Stretching helps reduce the lactic acid built your in your muscles (which if left in causes the aching). However stretching will only do so much. If your working legs then I’d do a 5-10 min walk on treadmill before stretching (this keeps blood pumping round body to the leg muscles, and it’s the oxygen in the blood that neutralises the lactic acid)

You need to couple it with consuming protein (which will help repair the muscle) and massaging the worked area will also help (increases blood flow to the muscle which helps reduce lactic acid).

Last point! A warm up is just as important as a cool down!! So if you don’t want to be sore the next day do a proper warm up (warm ups increase muscle flexibility so will reduce the amount of tiny tears your muscles have during a workout) the more tiny tears you get in your muscles the more sore it will be the next day!

Sorry for long message

Hope this helps

I stretch throughout. Once my body is warm and hot. It gives a chance for breathing to settle too so more oxygen into those muscles which helps. I usually ache a bit on second day not the next x
