I’ve only up until now had real proper Flu about twice in my life, many people say they have flu when it’s just a cold......Now I have it for a third time

I can’t actually move, hardly eaten for 48 hours, and every part of my aches including the hair on my head

How often have you had real flu?

I had it really bad between Christmas and new year, first time I’ve had it and without a doubt the most ill I’ve ever felt in my life. Didn’t move from bed for 3 days or leave the house for 7 days. It’s really awful. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I had it when I was around 14, I thought I was actually going to die I felt so ill. Always makes me laugh when someone says they've got flu when it's actually just a bad cold.

Yep especially when people are at work and claim to have the Flu, no way anyone would be able to get to work or go anywhere with actual flu

Coronavirus has killed around 500 people worldwide in 5 weeks whereas Flu kills over 40,000 people worldwide every month

Only had the flu once, the rest of the time it's a cold or get hit with cold and something else.

So waiting for either the cold or flu for this year, not happened yet, but 100% sure it will.

I had it once many years ago. It does bother me when people say they have ‘a touch of flu’. There really is no such thing and they would know that if they ever had real flu. It’s not a heavy cold, it absolutely floors you.

The first time I had it I was in my early twenties. I phoned my doctor and said I think I’m dying. I insisted on a home visit (such a brat) He came round and said “yep you have the flu” haha

just as a worning, my dad was tetropleagic, due to an acident in his teens, but functioned well, ha could mostly walk, all be it with sticks, but since hes never been able to stand alone, cant ever use an un powered chair.not sure of spelling, he took a flue jjab as recomended by his doctor, it knoked him for six, hes never been able to leave a wheelchair since, and it takes 2 people to get him up , and he can only stay up for a few hours, im not saying the flue jab caused it, but its surely a factor, be careful what you put in your body

"How often have you had real flu?"

Twice; 1992 after returning from Nepal to Hong Kong, and 2008 in Shanghai (probably infected by a taxi driver in Singapore who was repeatedly coughing as he took me to the airport).

Extremely unpleasant.

Best wishes for your recovery.

Generally, individuals who are moderately or severely ill (with or without fever) should wait until they are fully recovered before getting influenza vaccine.

Likewise with sports / gym (you'll realise why in a couple of weeks when you're in the recovery phase).

It's still worth getting as it provided immunity for up to 1 yeat and whilst cases have dipped slightly, the rest of this winter is uncertain. Check when to get it, based on your health.
