I’m self employed (electrician ) I work through agencies and pay tax under the cis scheme so I have 20% tax on every penny I earn. Then I do a tax return as soon as new tax test starts. For this year that’s 12,500 non taxable income. Then travel at 45p a mile plus tax relief on any tools I buy |

"(Not asking what job you do)
Do you enjoy it?
Prefer to be back employed?
Just on a weekend?
"
Self-employed love it but every minute is money for me so tricky to take time off. Feel guilty when i do |

I was lucky I was full a time employee then got the option to change to self employed in the same role.
Was a bit overwhelming to begin with as EVERYTHING has to be accounted for, however once I got my regular routine sorted out Its a god send.

Have been for 12 years as a contractor, I love the freedom to pick and choose what I do without the politics of being perm.
Because of our backwards government and their decision to roll out IR35 in April, it looks like I'll have to go back to the perm market as the financial rewards of contracting will be no longer worth it.
Well done, Boris and co. |

Yes, I have been for 24 years. I enjoy the freedom to choose what work I do, the possibilities to collaborate with others, work in different parts of the world, meet loads of different people and experience their cultures while often seeing the best in those people. I get to do work I love and get paid for it. It has its ups and downs financially but I wouldn’t swap it unless I had to. |

Doesn’t affect a genuine contractor |

I'm self employed. I enjoy the freedom.
The financial side can be a pain.
The time wasted dealing with customers who don't really want the job done anyway.
Been at it in various ways for 12 years+. I sometimes look at employment but just can't bring myself to apply fid anything. I guess underneath I like it too much. |
