I'm sure many of the cool music fans here will know The Stranger Song. I've known that song all my life yet it only very recently occurred to me that stranger could be a noun or a comparative adjective. "It's you, my love, you who are the stranger".

Drop a lyric or tell us your favourite Leonard Cohen song. Tell us if you saw him live and where and when. My father shook his hand at a concert years ago and told me about it with so much joy. There's so many of his songs I adore but if I had to pick a favourite I think probably "Hey, That's No Way to say Goodbye".

And thanks to A for putting the thread idea in my head

I love Leonard! Who By Fire is one of my favourites, and given I’m a huge jazz fan the performance of Who By Fire alongwith Sonny Rollins (can be seen on YouTube) is fantastic!

Love Leonard Cohen

Sisters of Mercy is such a beautiful song.

The Future is another favourite.

Sadly I never got to see him live.

Waiting for the miracle. Reminds me of my dad playing it on his mix tapes in the car.

"give me crack and anal sex"

That's a line from The Future and not a request

Such an elegant lyricist. The way his lyrical rhythms meander and dovetail is sensual and compelling.

His first three albums are nigh on essential and Jennifer Warnes Famous Blue Raincoat (The Songs Of Leonard Cohen) from 1987 is grand.

Charlie Daniels of The Devil Went Down To Georgia was a member of Laughin' Len's backing band.

I knelt there at the delta,

The alpha and omega,

She comes to me light

As the breeze

You can see it

You can taste it...

Track called light as the breeze

One of my favorite artists even though I discovered him quite late in life. This will change but at present it’s Boogie Street and Dance Me To The End Of Love that gives me goosebumps.

Famous Blue Raincoat was another I considered. Also One of Us Cannot be Wrong (Thin Green Candle).

visiting the beach

I love Suzanne, just wonderfully strange.

And you want to travel with her, and you want to travel blind

And you know that you can trust her

For she's touched your perfect body with her mind
