Are old seeds still good?

So I'm planning on sowing my seeds at home for germination and then take it outside after awhile if I'm confident. The question is, Are old seeds still good?

Is this a euphemism?

You might get a lower rate of success but still well worth sowing them.

Good things only tend to grow from good seeds

But you can only tell what the good seeds are by sowing as many seeds as you can manage

Do the water test, soak them for around 15mins. If they float then they probably won't germinate but if they sink then it's likely they will

surrounded by twinkly lights

Warm up your compost when germinating old seeds, use warm water to moisten them as well, but keep an eye out for fungus

I hate floaters - take a good few flushes before they go down

Hang on, what are we talking about here ?

The packets should have sowed by dates on them

If not, see if they float or sink like someone has suggested above.

I help mod a great gardening page op if you need some further advice etc.

Hiding from twats

It depends massively on what type of seeds they are. Parsnips and onions have crap germination after about a year, whereas tomato seeds are still good after about 10 years.
