State (secret word) in the subject line to prove you've read my profile
Jump to: Newest in thread
Does anyone have this in your profile and do you genuinely not reply if the person sending a message doesn't include it in the subject line?
I always refuse to reply in such a way and still get response anyway. But are there people out there that strictly enforce it? |

I find them annoying, as if an opening message isn’t hard enough you have to put their word in to. I maybe one of a select few that reads before look at pictures.
The other one that is annoying is “Send a face pic or no chat” this doesn’t guarantee a response either.

I do know some really do stick to it as it separates the wheat from the chaff and shows who took the time to read it.
Many of those that dont read them dont fit their criteria and still message anyway and when you're getting 100 plus messages a day then it can be a huge waste of time to go through them all.
I'm lucky I dont need to do it as I dont get enough messages to warrant it but I do understand those that do need to do this. |

I've only seen this a couple of times and have only sent one of those people a message. At the end I wrote "type bigfatdonkeydick first when replying so i know you read my message" |

It's a filter.
If you are getting hundreds of emails, it's easier to delete those that appear to have not bothered to read the profile.
I don't have a problem with too many emails, I'm grateful for any. Even those from people who haven't read my long and detailed profile and whose message is shorter than their user-name |

It’s pretty pointless and if I read it on a guys profile I wouldn’t message at all. Most people just don’t read profiles regardless of what you write. I have zero guilt in deleting those who don’t bother. |

I get why people do it and respect other's wishes if we send somebody a message. We haven't felt the need to implement it ourselves.
People usually make it pretty clear if they haven't read our profile. We don't get so many messages that we can't read them but most go straight in the bin. |

"I did have years ago, pointless as noone reads a profile. My profile has gone from novel length to super short & back over the years, still rarely anyone reads it"
I make a point of reading every profile I look at but then I crave information too, it's part of my psyche.
It's the only way you can work out a reasonable conversation opener in my mind. |

Sometimes I do sometimes I don't, often those who I message are people I have met or spoken to in forums/chat |

"I am thinking of including a really fiendish crossword clue in my profile, to really separate the wheat from the chaff.
I like this idea
I may just do a quiz. "
I think we are onto something here |

I don't currently, but I did for a long time. And I genuinely would just delete messages without reading them if they didn't use the subject.
The exception was any forum games and things like that. |

Yes, messages from the forum, having met, etc, are different. |

It's just polite to at least read a person's profile, we can appreciate the secret word thing.
We simple delete random friend requests, it's a shame people can't read a few lines of text for people they want to meet. |

We do. If you can't be bothered to read a profile then you're clearly not going to take notice of our wants/likes/boundaries/rules etc.
We find it lazy and rude.
If we reply it's only to tell them to read the profile. |
