These Bafta awards need sorting out next year.. just watched David Copperfield and Dev Patel, Rosalind Eleazar and Nikki Amuka-Bird where super. Better than that. Fabiosi. Great performances..
But in my opinion nobody can beat Bob Hopkins as Mr Micawber and Capaldi was poor.
Good film if you like Dickens.. |

You're racist because although your opinion about Hoskins is fine to hold .the race of the others is not rrelevantor required
YOU obviously want it to be a race thread and to be inflammatory

Please explain what your whole post means, in relation to your reference to your racism. It's not making sense to me. |

It's simple.. the title was to encourage people to read the thread.. the content was to praise the fantastic performances by those actors and actresses who deserve recognition.. see the film and I hope you will agree how good they are.. |

So it has nothing to do with race! You thought you just choose the title as "click bait"? |

"Joaquim was applauded for pointing out there were no black people represented this year.
I bloody cringed when he did his speech. I didn’t hear it. I read a news article about it. "
I was rooting for him. Thrilled when he got up and then Boom! He took his opportunity to speak and although I agree with what he said...... it still made me cringe. |

It has everything to do with race.. I have named three who should be considered for an award.. surely not that difficult to grasp that point.. they should be considered on merit.. Dev was magnificent .. |

The reason they weren't is nothing to do with race and everything to do with the film wasn't released by the cut off date. They will be eligible for next year's awards. |

"best just to scrap all of these academies and awards ...
Or best to just not post threads that may stress or harass anyone who may sadly have suffered from racism. "
Like myself.. live in an igloo with no doors or windows perhaps.. |

Fella here. I hate all this feminist and racial finger pointing rubbish.
I was once turned down for a job and a black guy got it, do I shout racist company? No, because that would be stupid, the best man got the job that's all and good luck to him, maybe the best people won at the awards, I don't watch rubbish award shows like that so wouldn't know who won. |

Very comparable, the best man won, it was nothing to do with race, he was the better man for the award of a new job, people just aren't happy unless they drama things up. |

This is ridiculous. And how do you know the other guy didn't get the job because of his race?
7 years running all those nominated for best director have been White men!
Are you seriously telling me that is simply because they are the best! |

Are you seriously telling me they set him on because of his race? What planet are you from?
Yes, I'm 100% saying no one would say 'oh let's only let the white guys in' sod the women and the black guys, absolutely ridiculous to think anything else.
It makes news and sells stirie, that's why it's reported and people buy it. |

What is ridiculous is to say institutional racism or sexism does not exist.

There is a big difference between racism and inclusiveness – and I’m sorry OP but in my opinion you. don’t seem to understand that.
If a film or TV show was deliberately excluded from an award by BAFTA because of ethnicity it would and quite rightly should be vilified, fined and shut down.
There are 6500 members that select which films are nominated, and any film that is nominated must have been shown in a UK cinema for at least seven days (or on stage) – this is where one of the problems (there are many) really stems from.
Being able to get your short film shown is the first problem, it’s the cost and also limited availability to showcase your work. Films are expensive to produce so unless you already have a name in the industry its extremely difficult to get sponsors, or employing a well-known actor from a minority group to get your film ‘up-there’, is also very expensive. It’s a sort of chicken and egg thing. So, the majority of films and tv programmes that get the BAFTA are those that have had the money pumped into them and have had extensive publicity and funding.
BAFTA seriously needs to get its act together – they need to cast their net wider so they can catch the minority films, with unknown film and TV producers, directors, actors’ editors etc who come from minority groups - they deserve to be recognised for the work that they do.
So sorry OP, I can’t believe that all of the 6500 members are racist, statistics will of course determine that some are, but surely not enough to determine the final outcome.
BAFTA needs to change its funding policy to be more inclusive to independent groups and it should also look inwardly on itself to ensure that minority groups are fairly represented within its membership.

I bow to your knowledge of the industry. I merely highlight the press criticism of the awards going to mainly white men. My point is to celebrate the performance of fantastic actors who are non white and worthy of consideration of future awards |
