Yes it mostly can be that, it is a sensitive subject but there have been many cases where when they have changed their diet the cancer would be cured and science backs it up.
Here is how most cancers work it is fed through sugar and carbohydrates so if a patient cut it out in their diet by going on a keto style diet they would significantly get better from it and in some cases it completely goes away it could be a very easy solution to it what is your view of it? |

"I think laypeople should leave it to the experts and that this subject will become quite heated. " Yes I was watching a program about it yesterday where the patient didnt want to go to the operation so they did their own research so after a while he got cancer free and the doctors could believe it as he told them what he did.

"My husband had an incredibly healthy diet. Everything organic and cooked from scratch. He didn't even eat anything out of tins. At age 50 he died of stomach cancer. " ,
So sorry to hear that...x..my sister in Law was diagnosed terminal 7 years ago. She had all sorts of treatments. With the help of her son in law, a nutritionist, she changed to a plant based diet and was much healthier, I doubt it cured her cancer, but she certainly felt a lot healthier and had lots more energy. Sadly we lost her in September... |

I think that there is anecdotal evidence to support this theory, I too saw a programme about it, The Beautiful Truth.
I lost my father to pancreatic cancer 2 years ago, and have a friend who is 4 years clear of breast cancer, who is now vegetarian, after initially giving up eating red meat, based on the raised risk.
It's an emotive subject, but I think it's good to keep an open mind x |

I’m very sorry to hear this and hope you’re coping ok...
Personally I think diet can support the immune system yes, but without the right treatment additionally? No. Look at Steve Jobs. He could afford the best of everything...
But then again perhaps it depends on the type of cancer and stage it’s caught at. |

Agreed. There's so many variables and so many lives have been emotionally affected by cancer to make any sweeping statements, even in a positive way. |

I'm happy that it worked for him.
If diet can cure most cancer it's wonderful news. I'm surprised that we're not hearing more about it. Have Cancer Research the charity commented at all? |

Yes same here it good that he got free from it. I reckon the reason it is not so much out there is cos many doctors wouldnt have many clients left so they dont tell many about the alternative treatments. |

my sister in law had reduction in most of her tumours and some went altogether, but she was on some ground breaking drugs, I think the diet helped her energy levels, which have her a better quality of life |

Shag, just curious why you think a keto style diet would help when the science says that a plant based diet is the best for reducing the risk of cancers and other diseases, and red meat in particular is a proven carcinogen? |

I can't agree with you. The NHS has much to gain from a reduction in patients, private health professionals would soon lose patients if they saw that there was a cure they weren't being given. |

I work people in this field, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to suggest that changing your diet will "cure" cancer. There is currently early studies showing that a change of diet in conjunction with medical therapies may help in certain types of cancer. However, there are also some preliminary studies that show a keto diet can make other cancers worse.

Cancer Research are funding my daughter's work in producing terbium which may prove beneficial in stopping the spread of cancerous tumours. Why are they bothering to fund this research if diet can cure cancer ? |

I'm highly suspicious of alternative cures while trying to remain open minded. There are so many conspiracy theories surrounding cancer treatment and often one "success story" is used as evidence that (eg) dancing naked round a fire at midnight is a cure.
There's no question that the western diet is responsible for many of today's health problems and that obesity increases health risks including incidences of cancer but I would still put my faith in conventional medicine first. |

I would politely suggest that the guy who you talked to is misinformed about the science surrounding diet and disease. As I said before, The China Study is well worth a look as it's the largest ever scientific study of the effect of diet on health. |

Thank you. She had a very aggressive brain cancer and went downhill very quickly since she was first diagnosed.
However she left a fantastic legacy and raised thousands of pounds for cancer research before she died.

I think there is something in what shag is saying simply because it is such a wide ranging and complex subject. But the opening post is hugely simplistic. Can diet prevent and/or help the treatment of cancer? Almost definitely. Is it something that needs more research? Again, yes almost definitely. Can it cure cancer? Not a chance |

My apologies if I came across as aggressive with my post.
She was a very dear friend and the cancer took her life very quickly.
She did not have the option of any treatment as she diagnosed terminal from the onset.
I do understand where the OP is coming from however, there are so many variable circumstances that can affect how each individual reacts to certain treatments.

Please please think about what it is you are saying. This would be going against all medial advice, doing this could result in things like the cancer spreading etc, some cancers you just don't have months to play with. Did have a quick look at your source, haven't watched it. But you'd be taking the advice of someone who is trying to sell a book. |

I'm a big believer in choice when it comes to ones own body, I could hardly be pro choice if I wasn't. I think with something like this though that you need to be armed with all the knowledge you can get. Currently, statistically more cancer is cured or put in remission by conventional treatment than by diet. |

I looked briefly at the documentary, and read a bit of the book. Will happily do a bit more research and get back to you. I'm also very cautious of people selling things.
But what I do know is that some cancers are agressive and a couple of months can make a difference. I do personally believe that both diet and mindset are important parts in the treatment of cancer. But I also know that there is no one size fits all cure. |

Don’t publish what you are not qualified to talk about As I said it was a question and about that guy who got cancer free through diet change, sure it doesnt work for everyone.
Would you be prepared to treat cancer solely with diet if you were unfortunate enough to be diagnosed ?Yes at first I would do that and then to monitor any changes every month to see if it would be get better.
Please please think about what it is you are saying. This would be going against all medial advice, doing this could result in things like the cancer spreading etc, some cancers you just don't have months to play with. Did have a quick look at your source, haven't watched it. But you'd be taking the advice of someone who is trying to sell a book. What source did you look at? And of course I would have regular check ups as well.
It wasnt a documentary it was an interview on swedish tv yesterday in swedish and yes all kinds of changes is good and of course treatment too, it was interesting and how food can be a tool to fight it too."

"Yes it mostly can be that, it is a sensitive subject but there have been many cases where when they have changed their diet the cancer would be cured and science backs it up.
Here is how most cancers work it is fed through sugar and carbohydrates so if a patient cut it out in their diet by going on a keto style diet they would significantly get better from it and in some cases it completely goes away it could be a very easy solution to it what is your view of it?"
I do believe so, I reckon the cure is plant based. |

"I think laypeople should leave it to the experts and that this subject will become quite heated. Yes I was watching a program about it yesterday where the patient didnt want to go to the operation so they did their own research so after a while he got cancer free and the doctors could believe it as he told them what he did."
Correlation is not causation.
There are any number of reasons why it might have gone into remission.
My wife works in cancer research and gets asked all the time if such and such can cure cancer.
Cancer is not just one disease with one mechanism so, at the moment, there is no single thing that will “cure” it. There are some patients that succumb despite a change of diet, having surgery, having chemo. Two people with comparable cancers may have very different outcomes despite the same treatment.
A change of diet might help some people but there are plenty of cases where patients don’t have their cancers treated or change their lifestyle at all and it spontaneously goes into remission.
Some people swear their “positive attitude” cured their cancer, some say it was prayer.
Incredible breakthroughs are happening in cancer treatment but at the moment there are no miracle cures that guarantee recovery. |

Perhaps diet helps in terms when chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy is your medicine. I hope that makes sense...
Because both are absolutely horrific!
And actually contributed to my mother’s death at the age of 46..
So yes, perhaps if we ate clean, from the word go and still be unfortunate and get cancer, we may stand a better chance of dealing with chemo and radiotherapy, better. |

The problem with that claim is that cancer will 'feed' from protein and fat if there is no sugar available, keto is based on eating protein and fat. I have no doubt in my mind that cancer cannot be cured by diet alone, it's just a ridiculous claim.
I sincerely hope nobody will read this and turn down life saving treatment in order to 'cure' their cancer by chomping down on a diet high in fat and meat. |

'A change of diet can cure cancer'?
Which cancer? Cancer is just a term for 100's of loosely connected conditions. Find a 'cure' for one, you don't automatically find a 'cure' for all of them (if, indeed, any of them).
If Cancer Research/Pharma companies knew about it, they'd tell you. 'Big Pharma' isn't sitting on a cure because it makes more money on treatments. You know why: Family members of people that work for Big Pharma get cancer to, there's a ton of money to be made from every cure because, as I said, it's not one thing and finally, scientists really love Nobel Prizes, it makes them eminently employable and quotable and I never met a scientist without an ego! |

Utter nonsense.
As someone who’s lived and breathed through this disease there is no diet in the world that would of prevented it starting in the first place. |

Ranitidine was removed from the market recently (voluntarily, after being advised my most countries drug authorities) when one company, under flawed testing conditions, found that by taking it, you stood a miniscule chance of getting cancer from taking it.
How big would the scare be if that chance involved sugar?
It's almost laughable.
PS. If anyone knows where you can get ranitidine from still, can you let me know as the stash is running out.

I didn't know about ranitidine being taken off the market. Have you tried omeprazole? It works in a similar way. |

You have to remember to take omeprazole every day, whereas ranitidine is a more targeted relief. I still got a couple of 100 esomeprazole (Nexium) off eBay for about £20 though, just in case ranitidine doesn't return to market. |

Not as black and white as a simple diet change, especially for advanced stages.
However yes, reducing the things that cancer cells need to exist is going to certainly help in curing it.
It just makes sense, but is not 100% reliable either. Plenty of people have changed their diets and lifestyle, and not overcome it while there are obviously some that have. Changing diet should be considered an aid, or part of the cure, not the cure itself. |

I'm not a cancer specialist but am not particularly aware of good evidence for nutritional supplements - ie. our diet, reducing active cancers or completely curing them, in very large numbers.
Sure, our diet does have some influence upon our likelihood for certain health problems, including some cancers. There has been research on some nutrients, such as Calcium and Vitamin D increases, when diagnosed with cancer: this appeared to help to reduce some cancer levels, in post menopausal women, if I remember right.
I've not read the full thread, only your opening post Shag. There are more of us without cancer, than with it. We can all help to improve our odds of not getting it, through some lifestyle choices, such as appropriate levels of exercise, a well balanced, healthy diet, good sleep levels, sun exposure management, reducing or stopping tobacco smoking, alcohol intake management etc.
The best thing for suspected or diagnosed cancer, is to have a good health service and to use it, following experts' recommendations. But, I am interested in others' information and good research. |

Everyone has cancer, cancer is the word used for mutated cells which have become a problem. Benign cancers are ones that are isolated and don't spread. Malignant cancers spread. Everyone has mutated cells due to the amount the body replenishes and replicates cells there's always going to be a few mutated. Which means they are no longer the cell they were meant to be. People who are diagnosed with cancer means these mutated cells have replicated before the body could remove them. Aggressive cancers grow quicker than the bodies immunity can deal with them. Benign cancers can be life threatening due to the location of them most are left in situ till they become a problem to surrounding tissues due to growth or they mutate further and become malignant. Spontaneous recovery has been documented because the body managed to create antibodies to attack the mutated cells. Some of which has been influenced by a virus which attacked the mutated cells and the body assumes the mutated cells are now foreign bodies.
Every day people consume carcinogenic foods (how many eat bacon??) and drinks, they smoke and work in the cities surrounded by every day things that can trigger cancer. Many people are predisposed to having cancer their genetic makeup means they are more likely to die from it. Elderly people who have reached the age of 100 have been asked how did you live so long, many will tell you they ate lard and various fatty foods, smoked 40 a day and drank alcohol. Yet people who've never smoked get lung cancer, people who've never had alcohol get liver cancer.
So what I say to people is enjoy life how every you want if it's going kill you well could be worse you could have lived a simple boring life not enjoying what it has to offer. A life lived is better than one that hasn't been. |

In a word...no.
Changing your diet can’t cure cancer.
Changing your diet and lifestyle can reduce your risk of developing cancer but not remove risk completely due to hormonal, environmental and genetic risk factors.
