Why not make a thread for the small minority who wish to talk shit on other peoples posts.

Maybe a "whats on your mind?" thread. Which they can talk as much shit as they like on. All i see on these forums is a few regulars who think they are gods gift ruining other peoples threads/questions. My first idea was to round them up and shoot em. But it is abit extreme.

I seen one guy ask a question and then after about 2 days of people "hijacking it" He asked if they could remain on topic. Somebody replied with... "If people wanted to, they would have" Surely that is just being a total dick?

Threads tend to be living breathing things. they tend to go where they want. Subjects will quickly go off at a tangent because the answer to an op will throw up another question or send the thread in a different direction. Have I been guilty of hijacking a thread? Almost certainly. Has it happened to me? yep. It happens. It'll happen to this one. I can even tell you who by

I just don't think it's fair when somebody asks a perfectly good question and a small minority of clicky regulars who may i add are not even funny. Try and be witty and have conversations which are compleeeeeeeeetely off topic. But hey maybe i am just "arsey"

Threads go off topic all the time, just like the topic of conversation changes during the course of a chat down the pub, so that comment is probably true...

Some people intentionally throw random comments in either to try to be funny, grab attention, or just to wind people up. So if you get wound up by it, it just feeds them

But if someone posts a topic in an open forum they have no way to control who or how the thread is commented on. So thats just tough luck.

Point taken. But i think the fact that the same select few have conversations between each other on peoples threads will just put people off actually answering the question. It simply limits contribution.

so ignore them and get the thread back on topic

People like these forums and how they work so naturally get a bit defensive when people moan about them

the only way to chage things is from the inside

You say people like these forums.... I mean in comparison to how many people use the site. A very small minority use the forums. Maybe justttttt maybe it is to do with the point i am trying to get across.

All i see is the same people talking to the same people. (talking shit btw) which is fair enough. But on every thread. It just gets boring. I am pretty sure it puts others off too. Infact i am 100% sure it does.

What are the rules for this 'whats on your mind thread'?

Can we only post whats on our mind if we haven't posted whats on our mind on another thread and if we post whats on our mind on a dedicated whats on our mind thread can we post again if something else gets on our mind just a few minutes later?

no harm in the intentions, just shows that sometimes a joke has more legs than the thread its self.

maybe there should be a split lounge to stop the infighting with the serious police.

but thats a point to raise in another forum that we're to "stupid to contribute in"

I thought i was the youngest here appears not mentally. It was just an example pissy pants. My point is in a thread like what is on your mind... The convo could roll onto one subject to the next allowing the people who clearly like talking shit amongst themselves to do so.

This would enable other people to make threads and get the answers they want without having to scroll through peoples conversations about what they had for dinner whilst trying to appear funny.

Typical answer.. Telling others how to behave? I am merely offering an alternative. I can show examples of so many peoples threads which have been "hijacked" by the same boring people. Yeah i may have only been on this 6 weeks but what relevance does that have?

An alternative to what ?? The tried and tested ways that the majority of users have used the forums since the day they began ? I say if it ain't broke don't try to fix it fella, and to imply that my knicks are in a twist because I 'don't like' what you are saying ???? wtf ? Just because I disgree with it don't mean I don't like it - get a grip of yourself or you'll end up getting yourself a bad name on these old forums, then you'll end up leaving and coming back as 'someone else' and none of want to see that happen

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I haven't been at this forum lark long but all the ones I have read with serious questions have serious responses fairly quickly. The same answers will then appear from others and then the thread breaks off into a number of strands.

It is all too easy to forget to censor oneself on here, but that seems to be the issue with all internet fora and not just the ones here. I have found people revealing much more about themselves than they do on the profiles and have even fallen into that trap by getting caught up in some of the comments.

Carry on... it's as good as sitting in a cafe and people watching and I can have the tv or radio on at the same time.

To the best of my recollection, the stats indicated that less than 2% use the forums. Don't quote me on that, I may be wrong but if I am, I'm sure that someone will put me right.

PS, why are you fighting someone elses battle. I'm sure those who have had threads 'ruined' are capable of speaking up for themselves ...

I agree that most site users don't communicate in the forums but I have been on the site before and never wanted to use them until this time. Lots of factors there (I have more time now than I did back then and the number of messages I received meant that I prioritised that, for instance). What I am picking up is that you find the most regular forum users to, perhaps, not be those you want to see on the forums. Enocurage the sort of conversation you want to see rather than attacking people for the way that they live their forum lives.

See, failing to censor myself again

Have you ever been on any other internet forum...hijacks happen, they are the lifeblood of a good forum.

One of the best discussions i have had online recently was on the only other forum i use. A thread about dislikable journalists turned into a discussion of the acceptability/ history of/alternatives for the word cunt.

Thats how forums work.

Once you put up a thread it is no longer yours, people can be kept on track by good thread management however. i rarely start threads and 99% of the time they are looking for advice. i try to reply to every poster and thank all for posting...its good web etiquette.

So many hijacked threads are posted by someone who only comes back two days later, and then complains that a conversation they were not involved in has occurred.

Once you post on an open forum you loose all right to complain about how a thread develops, you can however guide it with good sense and good humour.

What you cannot do is dictate what others think or write.

I have been a member of MANY forums. I am not saying you have to stay on topic for every thread. That would admittedly be shite. But i feel a few regulars seem to talk shit on peoples threads purposely. If the thread moves onto different topics that is normal. Convos do that. But when the same people are coming on and making what appears to be a mockery of the thread and themselves over and over again. It just gets tedious.

O o O oo

If someone came onto a thread JUST to say for eg "this thread is shit"...ie coming into a thread just to cause unrest then that is disrupting threads in a bad way and people can be banned for it ( but most don't do it again after being asked not to ).

If a thread goes off on a tangent with banter ( even if you don't like the banter )then there isn't any rules against that.

What there are rules for is bad mouthing other people on the forums even if you don't name them, and as far as I can see with your posts you have done this with a few of them.

I am going to shut this now as you are not having a platform for your insults.

Please read the rules before the next time you post.
