8th August 1992 - Finsbury Park - the Madnificent seven rode again, skinheads were in tears, an earthquake was recorded, it was possibly the most electric atmosphere I have ever experienced when the seven walked on stage and stood there in front of 36,000 fans for what seemed like forever until one of the seven took a microphone and uttered....
..."Hey you, don't watch that, watch this, this is the heavy heavy monster sound, the nuttiest sound around, so if you've come off the street and you're beginning to feel the heat, well listen buster, you better start to move your feet, to the rockingest rocksteady beat of Madness....ONE STEP BEYOND!!"....
...and the crowd went wild...that moment will live with me for the rest of my life |

Seeing Neil Young in Finsbury Park some time in the nineties. Gazing in awe at him as he tore through "Like a Hurricane." Or seeing Aerosmith at Wembley touring Get a Grip. They were absolutely magnificent. |

Linking Park, Road to Revolution at the MK Bowl 2008.
Epic gig, great support line up and Chester was amazing.
Lucky enough to have seen many bands in my lifetime that people today will never have the opportunity to.

Glastonbury 92, sitting in a field and getting sunburnt boobies waiting to see Billy Bragg's set. I've seen old Uncle Bill so many times and every single time it's been special but that day was just magical. I can remember like yesterday being given a cup of water by a steward just as he started playing "The Saturday Boy." He's always seen as a political songwriter but his love songs have always been his real strength to me. |

In January 1978 Frank Zappa did a series of gigs at Hammersmith Odeon (now the Appolo). I was lucky enough to have been at the second gig, lucky because not only did he perform a lot of his well known songs, it was the start of him experimenting as a solo guitarist. I had always loved Zappa, but up to that point i had no idea just how good a guitarist he was. A totally indulgent gig that had all of us in the audience mezmerized...............a real game changer for Frank and made me see him in a completely different light. |

Is this the "Shut up and play your guitar" era? I'm woefully ignorant about Frank Zappa but have maximum respect for him. |

Sort of yes. The shut up era actually started in the early 70's, but Frank didn't play anything solo live until the "Titties And Beer" tour which was the gig i was referring to at Hammersmith Odeon. He didn't actually release any solo guitar albums until the early 80's. |

Lol, saw them at Cambridge Corn Exchange in the 70's................it was very trippy lol. But not as trippy as when listening to "Warrior On The Edge Of Time" a few years latter. Was laying on the settee at a party having done a few "red leb" goodies and 8 pints of Abbot..................that was well trippy |

That was exactly the vibe of the whole day - Madness had been split up for 6 years and just stepping out of Finsbury Park station and seeing the crowds was a sight to behold - everyone was happy, everyone was there to celebrate the band being back together - everyone looked out for each other - I was in the thick of the mosh at one point and went down - the crowd parted, a 6 foot skinhead leaned down and helped me up and off we went again
Just one big joyous celebration |

Jeeze.. I've been to loads but there's so many more I wish I could have been at.
* More dates on the Pink Floyd Delicate sound of Thunder and Pulse tours. Only went to one. (sigh)
* See NiN on The Fragile tour which I missed.
* Pearl Jam came to at a VERY SMALL venue in Bfd a few months before I really got into them by seeing them on MTV Unplugged. Gutted!
* Live Aid - I was going to everything and decided I couldn't be arsed.
.... I could go on and on.... |

Actually another one that was pretty special was Green Day at Hyde Park - my then 14 year old daughter is a huge fan and was her first time seeing them so made it pretty special and her face when they came on was worth the ticket price alone. The line up included Stiff Little Fingers, The Damned, and The Hives so was able to tick a few "not seen but wanted to" boxes.
Green Day were immense and if Hyde Park had a roof would have blown it off. |

"Hawkwind during the Space Ritual
Saw Hawkwind at an all nighter at Brixton in the early nineties, on a strawberry tab. I met this guy who had some Nepalese... Well, anyway, it was a great night
Seen them several times but unfortunately not that far back! Nik Turner's Space Ritual are carrying the flag too
They were awesome. I still listen to Hall of the Mountain Grill and Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music. Such a special band.
Steppenwolf is a fantastic song. The 4 Calvert Charisma albums are my favourite but the early trippy stuff is pretty immense too
I did love In Search of Space. They make me think of a happier time when we all thought things were going to get better "
I think they did for a bit and then we peaked and it's all downhill now
On a slightly linked tangent, I'd have also liked to have seen the Pink Fairies reunion at the Roundhouse in 1975 |

Happily, I did get to see Motörhead in... 1996, I think. Groop Dogdrill supported. Awesome awesome show. I had tickets to see them in January 2016, but, well... |

Wish I’d have got to. My mate was devastated, as he knew Lemmy, he was his hero and the reason he got into metal xx |

AC/DC Donnington.
The one they made the video of.
I was up the front for the first hour.
Needed a breather and came back and the next thing I knew, Angus was going up on a riser beside me, going nuts!
Totally brilliant and the fact I can watch it all on bluray is class |

"Clash
Pistols
Uk subs
SLF
The rats
Siouxie and the banshees
Adam and the ants
Stranglers
I could just keep going but you’ll think I’m just bullshitting
Where did you see the pistols ?
Hastings
Wow ! That puts you in a group of a very very select few ..fair play .. but wow you must have been young ,, awesome though to go to a Bugie gig and end up seeing the pistols as support
Yea to be fair I was young but my parents were well into the punk even before it was called punk and if I’m honest you could add a couple of years to my profile age haha or were you trying to catch me out ?"
No not trying to catch you out . Genuinely interested . You see i was just that to young to really follow punk in those years . However i remember the older kids at school all becoming punks like almost overnight ..And the girls !! Looking like whores and dominatrixes with all the make up and stockings on show .. I was massively influenced but was always playing catch up because of my age ..
Anyway fast forward a few years .. And i met a guy and became friends with who had a boutigue on the Kings Road in 77 . He had been copying Seditionary and Sex clothing , but Viviene sued him so he hid it in a warehouse in Tooting south london . I had a market stall in Portobella Road , and took it off his hands and started flogging it .. And then one morning as i was setting up and a guy appeared inquiring " where the fuck did you get this shit from " .. And it was Cookie !! .. He was living in Spain at the time and wanted to buy a load to ship back over . And he knew the story as well of how it came about .. Anyway we did a deal and we chatted a lot cause we had breakfast a couple of times . And we talked about that Gig, cause its folklore you know , It was the pistols first ever gig ( they got 20 quid for it ) and he told me loads about it .. and it was pretty amazing .. Cookie reckons they sounded quite tight at first but Maclearen got them to de tune half way through the set cause he wanted them to get booed off .. Just be great to hear from someone who was actually there on the that night .. You and i both know that if everyone who says they were there , where there , the pier would probably collapsed |
