They do as you need a empty vessel or more to the point a vessel filled with air to resonate.

Probably, though some can be highly amusing too.

Usually the ones with the moniker, 'apprentice' seem to be born with a prodigious talent for such things

I feel I'm in a very prominent position to comment on this subjuct being a rather spacious vessel as I would rather we were called (sounds more important). The answer definitly is the quiet spacious vessels are to spacious to muster up even a whimpering gargle so spacious vessels do both the vocal and the mute Where's my shoe!
