Found out you had a life threatening condition....would you want to know how long you had or remain blissfully unaware?

Definitely want to know.

I'd like to downsize, for a start & not leave loads of stuff/ loose ends for friends and family to sort out. I've had to do this several times for folks that passed (& when you're sad, it's the last thing you want to do)

"Found out you had a life threatening condition....would you want to know how long you had or remain blissfully unaware? "

Life itself is a life threatening condition - we're all going to go at some point.

I sometimes think those given a timescale are at somewhat an advantage , especially when considering those that die suddenly in accidents or through completely unexpected circumstances without having any chance to say a simple goodbye to loved ones.

On that basis I'd like to know. Whether it was tomorrow, next week or next year.

It's don't know.

My mum recently asked her consultant if he could tell her how long she had left. He gave her a rough estimate but now she knows I think she wishes she didn't. The problem is once you have this knowledge there's no going back

I would want to know. I'm currently in limbo over some health issues and it's the not knowing that's bothering me. I can't book holidays as I won't be insured. I'm seeing the haematologist this week so I'm hoping for answers

I'd want to know, wouldn't want to empty the bank and load the credit cards in a week if I was going to be about for a year.

Would want to know - can put things in order, not only that prognoses are an estimate only, so would take great pleasure in sticking two fingers up when I outlived it

Over a 4 month period I almost met my demise 4 maybe 5 times due to unexpected and unforeseen reasons, regardless if you know or not, enjoy life and be grateful for what you have, make the most of it

I agree. Why wait until you know you've got a limited time to sort things out of tell people you love them?

We've all got a limited time but live as if we're immortal

I'd want to know.

Cash in everything I have through work and take medical severance.

Sell the house and go blow the lot doing everything I can think of and take those I care about along for the ride.

They'll be jumping out of planes, white water rafting and anything else I can think of before I decide when and how I'm going to go as no terminal illness is deciding that for me.

It's a short life once you know so go live it hard and fast

It's hard to make the most of it though when you don't have the information you need. I wanted to go on holiday in April but I've been told I won't get insurance until I have more conclusive tests. So I would love to get on with my life but you can't help but worry

I would like to know as I care so much about my friends and family, that I would want to do the right thing by them. I would want to help with my funeral arrangements, make sure my will was updated and sort out all my belongings.

I would then stuff my face with dunkin duffnuts, go skydiving and do a bungee jump, just because

30yrs ago this month I was told the stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma I'd been diagnosed with was going to kill me in less than 6 months. Happily I proved them wrong but yes I would and definitely did then want to know..

Why is it that people need to know they're definitely dying to start living?

My mum keeps telling me that I must do all the things I want to do (my dad sits on the sofa and shouts "she does" ) because she knows her time is limited and regrets not living to her fullest.

What stops us doing that bungee jump or taking that holiday? (Finances and health permitting)

"I have two ... "

Should say I was born with one ( longterm life affecting) and got the second onè (much more immediate) 19 years ago ... my kids have grown up knowing I could die very quickly

But feel for my brother as my sister-in-law could drop dead instantly at least I would take a couple of hours hahahahahahahaha

Hasn't made the slightest difference to me I was pretty wild before the first diagnosis at 24 and the second diagnosis at 33 ... always believed that we should wake up and be happy that we're alive every day.

Life is denied to so many at any age every day ... therefore I'm truly blessed every day! Have actually never lived "for the future" ...

After my diagnosis I was a little shook by it all, but then something changed, I put my affairs in order and just went out and lived.

4 Years on and well, after the last round of treatment I just said "enough" and walked out of the hospital never to return.

I wouldn't want someone to tell me how long I have, I have faced that demon and I choose to ignore it.

"Found out you had a life threatening condition....would you want to know how long you had or remain blissfully unaware? "

Blissfully unaware? It's likely you'd have some concerns about your health.

Oddly enough when I had a brain infection, one of the side effects was an overly happy demeanour (when the pain was controlled). And I didn't know about potential fatality.

Good luck to those who have, as yet, undiagnosed health issues. I hope you find out soon.

Out of interest if you broke a bone would you get it set 2020 style or 1320 style? I'm not being critical just interested in how far you are prepared to take things.
