"Why stop IVF?
Well if the world population needs to stop growing, why help people to make the problem worse ?"
Considering the highest birth rates are in africa and the mid east i dont think stopping ivf is going to make a difference |

So is it a bad idea for the climate to provide aid (food, water, and antibiotics etc) to developing countries? |

The fact is we will need population control and humanity will be unable to devise a fair solution
War and financial selection will be most likely.
I have no solution |

Op, why should people who can't have children through normal avenues be denied the right to try and have them when everyone else can have as many as they like?
A few numbers for you from a quick Google search, 8 million IVF babies born since 1978.
Roughly 130 million babies are born every year in total, roughly 5.5 billion since 1978 assuming same birth rate.
So roughly .15% were IVF, I don't think IVF is the issue Op

Surely it must start somewhere? Would be the counter argument. |

As a mum of 3 IVF children (I have twins) my view is no. IVF isn’t the problem for overpopulation and those who can’t have children naturally should not be punished when others can have as many children as they want. There is a cap on 1 child for funded IVF treatment where it’s available and I know this has stopped a lot of people being able to have further children. |

Yep a lot of third world countries have higher birth rates and they don’t have access to IVF. We need to give them something else to do apart from having sex to fill the boredom! |

You're looking at it all wrong. It's not too many births its that people are living too long.

With a world population of @7.3 billion, we could all stand in an area roughly 100miles square, without touching each other.
Roughly 70% of the Earth's land surface is habitable. There is enough room.
What we don't have is even distribution of wealth and resources because, well, people. |

Emancipation of women in countries where they are not allowed to take charge of their own reproductive cycles or to use contraception, might be a good start. It might even reduce the spread of AIDS and would almost certainly reduce poverty and starvation.
The Catholic church has a lot of influence in many poor countries yet is extremely resistant to these sort of remedies. |

Personally I think it would help if the Pope raided the Vaticans vaults and bought every Catholic in the world a packet or ten of rubbers.
That and changed their stance on contraception.

Maybe we should write to Boris and suggest he amends Child Tax Credits to Child Tax Debits - instead of getting money you have to pay more for every crotch fruit you spawn?
I reckon he'd be right up for that.
Think of the contribution it could make to the NHS!!

Overpopulation in my opinion is a myth.
Sure the population is a factor but only due to the demand of things.
Such as cattle farming - huge polluters but yet the population are making a demand for meat so, if we manage to cut down on meat as a whole that's something.
Plastic use - massive consequences on the ecosystem of the oceans, and the oceans are the top oxygen givers as well as climate controllers, if the population cuts down on plastic use, again that's something.
I know this is somewhat of a long winded comment haha but overpopulation isnt a problem if everyone can do even something little to help towards the effects we have on the climate by recycling, planting something if we can, reducing meat consumption, carpooling etc |

Not for those that can't have children no. The ones who just can't conceive, the ones that have medical conditions, the women who have suffered ectopics and have no tubes left as a result and have no living children. Plus many more scenarios.
Maybe after people have had a number of children it could be a no, but stopping it on a whole I really don't agree with. |

In western countries where people have access to IVF our populations are reducing because we are giving birth to less babies than the number of people who died.
It's China, Indian and particularly Africa where the population continues to increase.
A contributing factor to global warming is over consumption so you could say more people = more consumption. However, a child born in a very poor area of Africa is going to consume much less in their life than a child born in the U.K.
Proactively trying to reduce your carbon footprint and recycling etc which everyone could do, would have a bigger collective impact on the problem than stopping IVF.
I also think the government could do more. For example why are we still manufacturing diesel cars? Electric and hybrid cars are still mostly beyond the price range of low and middle income people. Why are manufacturers allowed to make products which are going to break down and need replacing after 5 years? Because we place productivity above everything else. Look at the teflon scandal they have just made a film about. Big business knowingly poisoning the environment and deliberately covering it up. Its not the first time its been discovered. Who knows how many more similar scandles are just waiting to be discovered. Think of all the poison us western countries have probably exported and buried in low income countries. Because profit is king. |

How about if it was compulsory for everyone to be gay for the next five years?
Would definitely cut the birth rate.
Give the world time for a fair few people to shuffle off before we start bumping up the population again......

Until we begin to look upon ourselves as a world population rather than just individuals with our own little rights and wants then we will never beable to stop anything. Nothing wrong with human rights and free choice obvs, its what males us 'human' but it needs to be considered on a scale of human as a whole race. Much like if you wanted to stop cows breeding you would just stop all of them and wouldnt worry too much that Betty cow really wanted a calf etc etc. Bluntly put but thats how it would need to be. |

I think the earth IS overpopulated. There would be less pressure on resources and less pollution and less global warming and climate change. It’s not about the percentage of earth that is covered by industrialisation or urbanisation but pressure and demand over a limited supply of resources. One day there will be fresh water wars. |

Ineresting that a bit of racism has crept into the subject.
Also has anyone noticed it's always africa where they have 'too many kids' and should cut down despite them using less resources than us because the western world is taking everything out of their country. |
