My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. |

Mine was a gentle giant who would do anything for anyone. I didn't realise what he actually had to endure or that he was actually my hero until it was too late.
I held his hand as he passed away in 2011. He was only 52. The demon drink took over. I miss him every day and I'm incredibly proud to be big Rabs daughter. |

My dad was wonderful. He was intelligent, funny, stubborn and I really couldn't say a bad word about the relationship we shared. My dad passed a few years ago, he was too young. I miss him every day. |

Deeply ambitious, hard worker, self effacing. A social chameleon in many ways. Refuses to conform socially, somehow gets away with the combination of defiance and ineptitude. Fiercely intelligent. Shows love and affection in highly idiosyncratic ways that are hard not to be insulted by sometimes.
An enigma. |

Fuck dementia.

I'm sorry "
Thanks.
We had years to prepare as was diagnosed early but the changes you see over time are often seriously hard.
If it ever happens to me I'm straight on a plane to Switzerland.

My dad was a complicated man with some amazing qualities but equally magnificent flaws.
We didn't speak for over a decade but managed to rebuild some sort of relationship before he passed away in 2014.
I have inherited his talent for manipulation, his love of music and his love of language, as well as his gloriously healthy blood pressure and low cholesterol. Thanks dad! |

He was an amazing man who worked hard his entire life to provide for his family. He loved his wife more than life itself, done everything for his children and his grandchildren were his little angels. Unfortunately some of this I didn't realise until it was too late |

"What's your dad like? "
Dead, and best place for him to be honest.
When men have children and make no effort to cultivate a relationship with them, dont expect them to suddenly be interested in a relationship in adulthood. |

My biological dad, I'm not going there
My step dad on the other hand is the best. Always there when I need him and I've learnt a lot from him. Couldn't have asked for a better father figure |

My dad is probably the funniest man I’ve ever known. He’s got such a brilliant sense of humour, even when things don’t always go as planned you can always count on him to make a joke about it |

"My dad is one of the most horrible people I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. Violent culminating with him aiming a loaded weapon at me as a teenager. But apparently it's all my fault"
Saying that his actions are your fault is the classic defence of a narcissist. Their gaslighting never stops. |

"Mine is a spineless bastard. He refuses to face up to his mistakes and doesn't give a shit about his children.
.....Are you my half sister?"
Quite possibly - given my father's habit of having kids and abandoning them, it wouldn't surprise me!! |

My curiosity got the better of me when I was 21 and I tracked him down. He was an alcoholic down on his luck. I didn't both meeting up with him again, I felt I had been spared a life of misery not knowing him. |

He is well enough to be annoying the hospital staff by constantly asking when he can go home! Got to stay in for at least a week as they run more tests. |

I have a lot of animosity towards my father because he used me to cover for an affair... I'll never forgive him for making me feel like that.
I DO, however, read through the comments from those who have lost their fathers and feel a twinge of emotion that I'm actually lucky he is still alive... Because no matter how he treated me, he's still my dad. I adored him right up until the age of 15, he was my hero.. |
