"Ccouncils in the uk spent £5.4 million for 'paupers' funerals last year.
I see adverts for funeral plans on tv and on other media regularly.
Have you made arrangements or will you ? "
Yep. Sorted. I'm as well insured as I can afford these days. Plus I want a basic burn, scatter, fuck off departure.
Hopefully no trace remaining on the planet, at minimal cost. |

Yes sorted mine out last year after the sudden loss of someone very close to me, three weeks later my father passed away too, I saw first hand the struggle to afford two funerals in such a short space of time, I decided then that I didn’t want my children to have to deal with all that financial stress |

My mum has. I need to start.
My step-dad passed away suddenly in 2012 and my mum was left with a bill for £7000! It wasn’t a big funeral either.
Luckily the funeral directors were amazing about it all and let my mum pay off amounts in lump sums when she could afford it but the financial stress at an already stressful time is horrible. I couldn’t help her out financially either at that time.
I plan on having a natural burial, so i’m hoping that’s not quite as expensive.

I’ve said what I want to happen to me when I go (cremation and ashes spread over 4 locations) not made any arrangements yet but should it happen tomorrow thankfully due to insurances/pension benefits financially I don’t need to worry leaving my family with any hefty bills |

Yes my body goes to a university for research or for spare parts
I have mandated in my will no funeral of any description |

Same thing for me too.
My dad passed away a few years ago and did the same thing. I was informed that within a few weeks of him passing that because he had a rare and particularly aggressive form of cancer that medical teams from all over the world had travelled to the UK to study him and that lots was learned and new procedures developed around what they found.
His body parts will still be being used for 30 years potentially too as per his choices.
I take a lot of comfort from that, far more than I ever would have from a funeral and grave.
Glad to see I'm not alone in choosing this route |
