"What links Eminem and Chas n Dave?

Labi Siffre, we’ve had this.

Correct and apologies if it’s come up before.

Chas n Dave were session musicians on a LS song that was sampled by Eminem.

It’s a great bit of trivia.

Almost as good as Bob Holness on Sax on Baker Street

Can I have a P for porkie please, Bob?

Great urban myth though

Does anyone know who made that “fact” up?

Sounds like something Danny Baker and Chris Evans would spin

No but good guesses. Before the ginger ones time I think

Wasn't Paul Morley was it? He was always making things up for column inches

It’s a presenter you like on the radio.

John Peel? Unlikely, Tom Robinson? He's cheeky enough, doesn't seem right tho...

Craig Charles, sounds like him

It’s my fellow townsman Stuart Maconie

Yeah we like him "

Actually that's a good guess as there is some debate as to whether Ringo's drum part is on the recording or Andy White's because George Martin brought him in as a session drummer. But it's another song I'm thinking of.

"Here's one I stumbled across last night - what was the first Number One to appear on Top Of The Pops?

Was it a rolling stones song? Or were they the first act on the show?

They were the first act to appear but not the number one that week"

Was it 1969? Wasn't Gary Pucket number one for ages that year?

Don't know the answer to the question yet but I do know TOTP started in 1964. So, on that basis, I'll say The Beatles?

As we're close to the end of the thread - I'll throw this totally obscure but made me laugh when I read it one out there as a fact rather than a question - stumbled across it last night....

Did you know that on one episode of Top Of The Pops, members of Steeleye Span stood in as member of The Wombles as Mike Batt's band was short of a couple of members for some reason

Going back to an earlier question I recall when John Lennon was asked by an interviewer "Is Ringo the best drummer in the world?"

John replied "The world? He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles!"

"Going back to an earlier question I recall when John Lennon was asked by an interviewer "Is Ringo the best drummer in the world?"

John replied "The world? He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles!" "

Which gave rise to the "Ringo Starr was a shit drummer" meme. It's worth watching Dave Grohl's youtube video retort where he says he's fed up of hearing it said. He gathers other famous drummers and discusses why Ringo was not only great but also very influential...
