As I sit in a cafe having my ears blasted by a screeching child, I'm thinking

If the human race is so genetically advanced, why aren't babies born with volume controls?

A midwife told me that human hearing is most sensitive at the frequency at which babies cry.

True or not, it certainly makes sense in evolutionary terms.

Doesn't a baby cry to get attention - ie. needs feeding, cleaning etc - be a bit daft to have a silent cry, don't you think? Z
