I love a list, esp a music one, this one triggered by Lola's NYC concert thread...

Was thinking about my "most played" albums. Not my favourite, no particular genre or definiton. Just the albums I've heard most often in my life:

Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel

Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles

Depeche Mode - Violator (or SoFaD can't be sure)

Meat is Murder - The Smiths

Royksöpp - Melody AM

In The Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel

Anyone wanna share theirs?

But he's only been around for 6 or 7 years right? You must play him a lot

Yep. Every day without fail. In the car going to work and coming home. If I'm having for a walk I'll have my earphones listening to him. At home every single day. It drives my kids nuts.

There and to the left a bit

If my iTunes is used then The Liberty Of Norton Folgate by Madness is my most played album

Over my entire life the following would feature:

I Just Can't Stop It - The Beat

All Mod Cons/Setting Sons - The Jam

The Specials - The Specials

Steve McQueen - Prefab Sprout

Lexicon Of Love - ABC

One Step Beyond - Madness

In fact most Madness albums would feature in there somewhere

"I have my definite "turn to" albums which are:

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures + Closer

The Chameleons - Strange Times

Belle and Sebastian - Tigermilk (plus, also, Push Barman to open old wounds)

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

Orange Juice - You Can't Hide your love forever

Wow wasn't expecting to see Strange Times, my fave chams record.

And the mighty Orange Juice (they invented the smiths)

Invented The Smiths???!!

What's your most played fella?"

And Stewie Griffin from family guy on vocals.

Strange Times is pretty much my greatest album of all time especially with the extra tracks version.

And, yes, you're 100% right about Orange Juice. Without them = no Smiths.

Yes. Superunknown, very important album to me. I clung to it during a very tough time.

I bow to your better judgement but I can't hear it. Also John Peel said that with the Smiths it was the first time in a long time he had heard a band and couldn't tell what they're influences were...

This is a harder question than I'd thought; there are albums I've not heard in years but played over and over for a period of time so they'd still make the list. Favourites of recent years may have been listened to non-stop but are too recently discovered by me to make it. However, if I try not to over think it:

Wonderstuff: Never Loved Elvis

John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman: Originals

Divine Comedy: Short Album About Love

Soundgarden: Badmotorfinger

GnR: Appetite for Destruction

Utah Saints: Utah Saints

Depeche Mode: Violator

Green Day: Cookie

Blur: Parklife

The Clarks: Another Happy Ending

"I love a list, esp a music one, this one triggered by Lola's NYC concert thread...

Anyone wanna share theirs?"

I’d say my favourite Beatles album would be “the best of the Beatles”...

Glad you enjoyed - the title track is a stunner - saw them perform it with a full orchestra last summer and it was flipping amazing.

Not sure if you listened to the standard version or the deluxe (which has 22 tracks) but if the standard, see if you can find the deluxe as there are some amazing tracks hidden away on it (One Fine Day and Hunchback Of Torriano to name two)

Very cool, and I would never ask which one, but a nice thing to show the grandkids all the same - they recently released a book as part of their 40th celebrations, and asked fans to send in pics of them from 40 years ago, which they then used in a similar style to the One Step Beyond inner sleeve as the inner cover of the book.

Veteran of 60+ of their gigs here....like it doesn't show

Norton Folgate was, for me, their pinnacle, the next album (Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da) is good, but not as good, and the last one (Can't Touch Us Now) I've played no more than a handful of times

I was a little skinhead then in the late 70s with my Harrington jacket etc and a friend of mine knew them from school, think it was called Quinton Kynaston, or something like that (excuse the spelling), so we sent in the pics cos he knew one of them. Mine got used and his didn't and it caused a bit of trouble at the time lol

Oh couple of other mentions:

Glory Boys - Secret Affair

Definitely Maybe - Oasis

Searching For The Young Soul Rebels - Dexys Midnight Runners

Well I listened to the Norton Folgate album today and I have to say it's bloody amazing. I'm from London originally so that helps massively. Wouidnt say it's in my greatest albums of all time but it's bloody good!

I've seen them live many many times - and here's the deal - I'm on one of the little photo me pics on the inner sleeve of their debut album, not saying which one as I wasn't Lisa then and I'll never reveal. Well certainly not on here anyway. But not seen them live since Norton Folgate. I'll listen to the extended version tomorrow x

Mine got used and his didn't and it caused a bit of trouble at the time lol "

Ha ha awesome and yeah spelling looks about right

"I love a list, esp a music one, this one triggered by Lola's NYC concert thread...

I’d say my favourite Beatles album would be “the best of the Beatles”... "

Because it's the best of the Beatles?

Cher - Closer To The Truth

Prince - Purple Rain

Culture Club - Colour By Numbers

Japan - Gentleman Take Polaroids

Enough already..... "

Someone mentioned Gentlemen Take Polaroids! Teenage me would have put it on the list. I played that album to death and my mates all yawned.

I listen to music so often and have listened to so many different albums it's hard to think of which ones I've listened to the most. I'll think of a few anyway.

Any album by Kate Bush as she's my musical heroine. I've probably played Hounds Of Love and The Dreaming.

David Bowie is my musical hero. I've probably listened to Scary Monsters as a whole the most.

MARINA Froot.

There's an Abba one in the list as I listened to my mum's records when I was a child and I still listen to them now. Probably Voulez Vouz

Nerina Pallot Fires

Siobhan Donaghy - Ghosts

I'm realising I should definitely have added Japan's last three albums onto the list! Mick Kern and David Symbian have always fascinated me. I wish there were men out there today that looked like them circa the 70's and 80's!

They were very pretty. They lived in the town I grew up in and went to my school. I was too young to have known them. I met Richard Barbieri however, his mum and dad were customers, they had his gold discs up the wall of their stairwell.

But he's only been around for 6 or 7 years right? You must play him a lot "

He has been around for longer than that. I still remember being able to see Ed Sheeran for £10 in Liverpool
