So what gets me about this is you get the meatless meatball the vegan tuna etc etc etc.

I'm sorry but it's not a meatball if no meat in it, it defo is not a tuna fish if it's a piece of bloody watermelon.

Each to there own I do like the odd veggie dish but call it what it is not false advertising stuff.

The "V" brigade eat such things as 'Quorn' which in case you are confused is about as close to a mushroom as I am.(even tho I am a fun-guy)

OP, you do seem to be getting a little worked up about this, however, I have to agree, why not call it a veggieball or vegburger or similar?

Everyone is entitled to eat what they like but stop trying to promote it as something which it is not.

I think most of the advertising now is aimed at getting meat eaters to eat veggie, or capturing the market of meat eaters trying to reduce consumption.

I have a few friends who are veggie and vegan because they think meat is cruel, and it puts them off when veggie food is labeled as fake meat. Even more so when it looks and tastes like meat.

As much as I love me a bit of red meat, I quite like some meatless food on occasion. I made a nut roast on Sunday and it was delicious. I'm not keen on veggie food that masquerades as meat (facon, veggie "chicken", etc), but if it keeps other people happy, crack on. I can always have a bacon butty instead.

To be fair there are vegan restaurants and meat restaurants. Room for both but it's a commercial world. A restaurant can design a menu how it likes and whoever it likes

"The angry eaters seem to be the vegans usually..

Angry about others diets but not their own

What about Piers Morgan? He seems fairly angry about other people's diets and definitely isnt a vegan"

There was a novella published a few weeks ago, where the plot was about Piers having sex with a Greggs vegan sausage roll...

I tend to agree with you, but to a point. I work in Hotel Management, on Nights, so the daily breakfast buffet set up is a key element of my work.

The hotel prides itself in catering for differing food hates etc. We offer Gluten free cereals, bread, even sausages plus Soya, Almond, and Coconut varieties of milk as Standard.

Anything else, we will cater for, so long as we get at least 24 hours notice. But what gets us, is the guest who asks if we have some particular Vegetarian or Vegan oriented foodstuff that's so off the scale knowledge wise, then they get in a strop when we say we don't have it.

On a positive note, we're getting repeat business from people who recognise we offer dietary breakfast options; these guests say they don't get that choice often elsewhere across the UK, with puzzled looks from other hotel's staff when asked for Dietary free options. These guests also know to advise us ahead of arrival if they require something different.

It comes down to knowledge of dietary tolerances and keeping abreast of trends too.

It's simply down to specific Vege or Vegan foods or liquids that are a favourite of ONE guest, that isn't in the mainstream food choices or available locally.

Eg. we were asked by a guest in December, if we stocked a certain type of yoghurt? We said we didn't.

Turned out, it was a brand, known and supplied across the home County where this guest lived. But nowhere else! We asked if any alternative would do? No, it had to be that type!

We contacted the maker, but they didn't do Mail Order. The guest made a real song & dance complaint about her dietary requirements not being met! Come on!!!

I think vegan and vegetarian cafes and restaurants will do really well if the food is good. I would eat there. If they allow meat eaters in that is.

I don't think they would expect you to fill in a questionnaire before you enter, most could not give a crap so long as you are respectful and polite... Much the same that all businesses would expect from their clientele

Most people who could eat a vegan treat are meat eaters, so it is commonsense to make products, including names, that will attract them. That one veggie burger or sausage roll may not be the total end point of them never eating animal again but it could be the inspirational moment when they start a new route.

The world has about 10 years to prevent the very worst of human caused catastrophic heating and greater levels of species extinction. Our use of a small numbers of animal types for our food is a massive part of the increasing damage that we are causing. We don't have to cause thos damage. We can limit the damage that we are causing, just by dietary changes. A vegan diet is nutritious and healthy. And it could create a better life for your children and other species in our world.

There's nothing wrong with helping to influence others to enjoy a healthier life. It doesn't need to mean that they eat Gregs vegan steak bakes every day. For the rest of their lives. Most vrgan food will be unlike meat but you will have choice and control over how you fix your menus.

It’s all about marketing and being able to sell as much of that product, therefore the familiar name remains whilst the product changes. If you mashed a load of veg into a ball at home you probably wouldn’t Call it a meatball.

There must be an average temperature, otherwise how do we know AGW is occurring? So therefore, we must know how high above this average it is, and how high above expected warming that figure is.

Tom hit the nail on the head. No one knows as it depends where the starting point is. Go back to the beginning of the planet then we are probably way down, last 100 years slightly above, last 1000 years then no one knows as we wasn't measuring it then but probably slightly above, last 100,000 years guess is about the same or slightly down but don't know.

All we do know is that the earth's temperature must fluctuate otherwise we would have no need for an average.

"How high above average temp are we at the moment?"

Start with the last IPCC report, to get a grasp of the consensus and what was the situation and projections then. You've been referred to as a denier of anthropogenic global heating. Do you disagree with the settled scientific evidence of this? It's helpful to state your position, if that is driving your points.

If you really want to know, below is an abstract from a paper which explains it. And the data there is from 20 years ago, now each new year is the new "hottest on record"

"We present the first analysis of global and hemispheric surface warming trends that attempts to quantify the major sources of uncertainty. We calculate global and hemispheric annual temperature anomalies by combining land surface air temperature and sea surface temperature (SST) through an optimal averaging technique. The technique allows estimation of uncertainties in the annual anomalies resulting from data gaps and random errors. We add independent uncertainties due to urbanisation, changing land-based observing practices and SST bias corrections. We test the accuracy of the SST bias corrections, which represent the largest source of uncertainty in the data, through a suite of climate model simulations. These indicate that the corrections are likely to be fairly accurate on an annual average and on large space scales. Allowing for serial correlation and annual uncertainties, the best linear fit to annual global surface temperature gives an increase of 0.61±0.16°C between 1861 and 2000."

Termites are only thought to contribute approximately 4% methane and 2%, carbon dioxide to the total global fluxes.

"How high above average temp are we at the moment?

Start with the last IPCC report, to get a grasp of the consensus and what was the situation and projections then. You've been referred to as a denier of anthropogenic global heating. Do you disagree with the settled scientific evidence of this? It's helpful to state your position, if that is driving your points.

No science is settled. There must be an answer.

Yes we are getting warmer.. The clue is in the ice melt.. just like many times before...

The clue is also in the increased amount of "natural disasters" we're seeing, the level of species extinction etc. So yes, what you eat really does make a difference, you just have to choose whether it'll be for the better or worse.

Which natural disasters would you use as evidence?

I really think you're missing the point.

And feel free to do some research of your own if you'd like to find out, I have things to do aside from spoon feeding you scientific evidence for something that is clearly an issue.

It's quite easy to do for yourself, I'm sure most people could manage it. =)

It's ok to say "I don't know". "

It is, but more accurately, you come across as quite argumentative and I don't want to spend my time fuelling it.

Enjoy your night.

"The "V" brigade eat such things as 'Quorn' which in case you are confused is about as close to a mushroom as I am.(even tho I am a fun-guy)

The list of so called 'ingredients' reads like a mad scientists homework and processes used to manufacture it belong more in a lab than a food company.

I will just stick to beef.

(Ingredients: Beef)

(Warning Label: May contain...beef) ooooohhhhhh i do love beef.

Argumentative seems to be a label for someone who disagrees with the brainwashed...They can never see let alone accept another's view sadly.. so they Markle..
