A world of my own

I'm off on hols soon and have always taken toooo much stuff with me, but now the tour operators/airlines are being strict with luggage allowences, has any one got tips for travelling light(er)? I don't fancy paying £11 per kilo on excess baggage this year. Thanks x

Get one of them weights for doing ya case....

brilliant specially when abroad to chck b4 comming home.

But do check THAT countries limits.

I went to turkey in may and have been going for years...

Thomas fook it...says 20kgs...i say ok and weighed case and was under.

Comming back thru turkey....after weighing said case which was 18kgs....

I got stopped saying the maximum was 15kgs.

We...all the others who got caught , knew it was a sting but had no choice but to pay the extra.

So double check and get it writing for both ends

little house on the praire

Cant you wear any thick clothing you need to take like jumper or coat and just pack the light stuff. I hardly take anything on holiday to wear im a scutter. i take clean bra and knickers for every day and usually wear dark or black on the bottom so it lasts three days and vest tops. Dont bother taking makeup, get some small empty bottles so you can take small amounts of shampoo ect instead of large bottles or buy one of those hair and body all in one washes just for that time.

Having said all that im the one that arrives at chameleons for the evening with a suitcase

i tour on a motorbike so carring capacity is a premium, so i just take two changes of clothes along with the tent the sleeping bag,and some personal hygen product(don't want to smell like a bore ) then when i get to where i want to be, i throw away the stuff i took and buy new jeans/t-shirts as and when they are dirty

And take enough clothes to dress the whole apartment block.

But always look the part.......

Of some over dressed tourist.

I would do as suggested by someone else and buy one of the weight hangers.

But your thread did remind me of when my parents went to Greece for the first time without my brother - he was over 16 so he had his own baggage allowance but my mother forgot to take that away from what she had taken the year before and packed 2 big cases full of her stuff and had to leave books and shoes as well as clothes in a bin at Glasgow airport!!

When she phoned me from her holiday I was rolling on the floor laughing and she got even more miffed

A world of my own

I do most of what has been suggested already, decanting toiletries into small bottles, wearing heavier stuff to travel in etc.. and I do have a weigh thing, and the smallest travel iron in the world, a tiny tiny one from M&S!! I'll just have to be strong and just pack less!!! And wear the same thing twice

Peaches, you actually took a toaster on holidays???

Will have to bare that in mind as improvising is fun. Most places I stay in Greece only have the basic 2 electric rings, but I have a villa with a toaster, kettle, microwave and grill this time, up market or what??? Lol.
