I hope I can start with...
My grandfather ran a brewery in Canada during prohibition, he refused to sell to the mob, and basically had to flee Canada with his family or the mob would have had him executed..

You know the old story of the sailors shipwrecked and adrift and they draw lots to see who gets eaten? That actually happened and the remains of the cabin boy, Richard Parker, who lost and was eaten are buried in a little church just down the road from where I grew up.
But there’s more; Around 50 years earlier Edgar Allen Poe wrote of a similar occurrence in his novel the Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. Sailors are adrift and starving and draw lots...guess who loses? A sailor called...Richard Parker.
Btw Yann Martel who wrote Life of Pi and featuring a shipwrecked tiger called Richard Parker claims he’d never heard of both of these stories. |

Anyone know about the headstone of the virgin in sleigh on Sea churchyard, apparently smugglers used to sharpen their sabres on it? |

In World War 2 the allies found out the the Nazis were using the Leaning Tower Of Piza as an observation post. They send a sergeant over to investigate and when he got there he was staggered by the towers beauty. So he never called in a strike so as to preserve this piece of art and history. |

My grandad came back from Dunkirk a sociapath, one day he accompanied his wife to the dentist, to get a bad tooth removed. whilst unconscious, he told the dentist "take em all out, I'm not coming back in here".... She woke up to no teeth.  |

My grandfather was a mobster responsible for alcoholic drink procurement during prohibition. He was very strict.

Apparently having all your teeth out was popular in the 30s and 40s as dentures were seen as quite classy and a lot less trouble than having your own teeth. A popular wedding present was a paid up dentist visit to have them all removed and replaced with dentures. |

My great uncle used to hate anything Japanese. When I bought my first motorbike he was very disappointed that I bought a Suzuki, I was upset because it was my pride and joy and that I'd upset him. He was always good to me.
After he died it turns out he was a Japanese POW on the Burma railway and he never ever mentioned it or the war to anyone. |
