Spotted someone's status update the other day. Something along the lines of Foam Rollers being a special kind of torture.
Well, dug mine out today, as I pulled my calf.
OMFG! It is a special kind of torture! Such a tight spot in my calf, it is soooo sore rolling over this thing.
I think I need to find a BDSM Domme to make this kind of pain worth it!
Any tips for foam rolling?

Oh yeah! Just when I thought it couldn't get any more painful, just rip the hairs off my legs while you're at it.

Yes. Got one a while back. Physio had recommended it as part of rehab for my son's knee pain.
Good for tendon and muscle pain, and general prevention. |

I have both a soft foam roller and the harder one with knobly bits and I tend to just endure it. I recently got a massage gun though whi h perfectly replaces the foam roller and possibly my sports massage sessions saving me a ton. |

Sorry to have changed tack from the slightly more sexy comments - thinking about getting one myself. Good to hear they work, cheera |

I also have a massage gun which is powerful and brings next level incredible pain! "

"I'm staring at the foam roller and the massage gun and I already know which one I'm going to pick "
Some have made their own from parts off Ebay fraction of cost and just as good , the pain of them is hard to take , I mix it up with a freeze treatment less pain |

I'd hardly call them painful though, I decided to get one when two sports massage therapists I visited used them on me instead of their hands which I thought was downright lazy of them.
My quads seize up after a run and they help immensely |

Foam roller is a bit meh, doesn't get to the hard to reach bits. Good for quads and that's about it.
Hockey ball is where the real pain is, it's amazing.
Also have a massage gun which helps with generally keeping things nice and loose and helps recovery.
Still not as good as a proper sports massage though. |

"It's ouchy god help me on my IT bands. Unfortunately what I need"
If you already have the ITB syndrome then rolling it isn't usually the best solution. There's a tretch you do where you lay on the floor with your knees bent at a 90 degree angle, crossed St the knee and pushing against the wall that helps.
I basically stretches the band at the glute where it originates |

The roller is the advice I've been given and it's helping, but thank you. |
