While talking to someone the last few days and this made me ask the question on the work forums as well and i thought why not try it here as well.
1. you meet up for a drink and lunch with a friend, knowing you have some money but not much. The friend buys the drinks and says "what would u like to drink", do you have what you always drink as you don't take the piss or do you order something that you don't normally drink as its expensive but as they are paying and what the hell?
2.you are at a work meeting the company is paying the bill again the question is asked food and drink wise, do you order what you normally have or order something more expensive and fill your boots as the company is paying?
my answer will always be the same i drink what i normal drink and eat i wouldn't order something expensive if i didn't eat it or drink it normally likewise for work. i dont take the piss
this will be interesting to see how many will answer. i am looking for honesty not stupid comments to make you look big and clever!

I hate having things bought for me and like to be fair about things. i wouldnt order something if i knew i couldnt buy it.
Having never worked for a company that paid for expenses i cant say.. i doubt id take advantage if anything id go the cheaper route or pay for it myself and not make a claim if i did want a treat |

'yes'
'i'll have the fillet steak then - and a bowl of chips TO MYSELF' |

I always drink the same no matter who is paying.
Only ever got pulled up once about expenses and after I emptied all the receipts on his desk and asked if he wanted to pay the true cost of being away. Funny enough never questioned again

I would order what I normally have.
I remember years ago being with friends and drinking champagne and the next thing a bottle of Cristal came out. I refused a glass and when asked why. I explained that at the time I couldn't afford to buy a bottle. The guy looked at me and said have a drink, one day you may do the same for me. A couple of years later their business was bankrupt. That Christmas we made them a box of drink up, they said it was the best present and made their Christmas |

i normally have a large glass of rose but if someone else is buying then i'll have a small glass as i feel it would appear rude to ask for a large one
i would order an average priced meal as i wouldn't wish to appear to be a piss taker
i like to play fair in life on every level |

Friends would not need to ask what I want to drink, they know what it is already.
As for going on trips on company expenses, I always complied with the stated rules and policy on travel expenses.
Usually, that means a set meal at a restaurant and not a la carte.

Out with a friend: I'd have whatever I felt like having at the time, just as I would expect them to do when I offer.
On the Company: I'd have whatever I felt like having at the time, without exceeding the allowance limit obviously.
Sometimes I will go to a nice restaurant, sometimes I'll have room service (if they do a nice steak and desserts) and sometimes I'll stop off at a supermarket and pick up a few bits.
So in short, who is paying doesn't change what I'd be having. |
