I've been watching mabes. I was a little disappointed he went with stereotypical examples but the students were interesting! Great open minds though still very young.

"I'm not sure if it glamourizes it, documentaries like this never highlights the downside of it all.
I've not watched it all yet, but it's not looking especially glamorous to me. "
Glamourous is maybe the wrong word, but they rarely dwell in how dangerous a job it can be |

I just finished watching and was about to open a thread on it lol.
I was thinking he should have had a bigger variety of women, he focused heavily on their pasts, yet lots that do it do so because they enjoy it. He could also have possibly found more clients to talk to so you see both sides |

Didn't feel like this was one of his better attempts. It didn't feel that any of the women had a good experience. There was a lot of stereotypes used. Though this is often the case with programs dealing with sex |

It was really good! Just goes to show the effects it has on other's both positive and negative! And the reasons some people feel they have to do it.... Very interesting and insightful I thought. |

Not at all.
Didn't feel he was particularly engaged with his subjects.
His recent opiate crisis one had a very different level of interaction, I'd say. |

Agree he felt very standoffish to the participants, I can't help by feel he'd normally have been asking the husband of the older escort a lot more questions. |

I felt he was trying not to lead the women down a particular route.
Of course the women will have been chosen to reflect a certain opinion, no documentary is ever without agenda.
However that doesn't mean that its not representative of certain aspects of sex work. I can't imagine that many women actually love sex work, its not all Belle Du Jour |

I just watched it and I thought there was alot more to the background of the older couple that wasn't explored... They talked about her Victorian upbringing but what had happened between that her starting to be an escort? She didn't seem to have any respect for her husband... |

Exactly what I thought but I also feel I think he shouldn’t really talk about the obvious things and delve deeper |

Most likely, lets see if they can pin swinging on past abuse too |

As someone that has sold myself for sex previously, and know lots of girls (real girls) and Tgirls who do the same there are many different reasons why we got into it. Its not satisfying, for some unfortunate people it pays the bills and feeds the kids (or habits), for others it's a supplementary income. It's surprising how many men just want the company and not necessarily sex, just someone to cuddle and talk to. I've not watched the programme yet, I've recorded it, but it's A. Very rewarding and B. Can be very dangerous |

The only time he opened up he said that he wanted more time with her. She seemed to be on her own journey without much consideration for him. It could be that it had started as a hotwife, cuckold thing but had progressed into her being an escort.
However my main feeling was as others have said was that Louis didn't really dig deep enough... |

I felt the same about his documentary about polyamory. Granted there wasn't as many stereotypes as in others but overall he was very negative about the whole thing and seemed to want to find things to fit his narrative. It's made me look at his other documentaries in a different light. |

I find most "documentaries" about sex workers a bit sad. There think they're mostly edited to present women in sex work as damaged somehow and they rarely snow make sex workers.
However I think the majority of women sex workers do it from necessity or coercion rather than as a career choice. |

I thought this too but not for negative reasons. His usual style is a sort of detached over engagement (if that makes sense!), which can come across as condescending or mocking.
In this programme I felt he genuinely respected the subjects, his demeanor was almost like a counsellor, posing questions and letting the women talk without being judgemental or offering his own opinion. |

yes I agree there. This may be because I tend to be a bit like that myself.
I thought he was very sweet in the way that he looked away when the women were changing or posing |

"Anyone else get the sense the older woman wasn’t doing it for the money? ... I think she’d be happy as a hotwife "
Her husband said he wanted her to basically be herself, I don't think there was a dynamic you could particularly label just him happy to see the woman he loved doing what she liked |

"Not glamourising at all.
But it's a bit route one in its casting. Sex work = abused past kind of thing. "
That's exactly what I thought. I see sex work changing right now, there will always be the dark, seedy side, the tragic reasoning for doing it, but I was hoping he'd highlight the changes in the industry. Women are doing it because they enjoy sex. For quick cash or long term career choice. The different services available to market now, text sex, camming, personal web pages! I could go on!
Anyway, I'm a bit of a documentary whore, so always wanting more

Yes that’s kinda what I meant. I don’t think it was about making money for her. I felt it was about sexual freedom |

I think money was part of it because she could be doing it free. I have no issue with her making money though |

Wasn't impressed with the production talking with the 14yr old daughter without disguise, that she knew what her mum does is one thing, but to broadcast it made uncomfortable viewing.
The mothers motivation is clearly driven by doing the best financially for the kids, but have grave reservations about exposing them to all kinds of trauma that she can't control seems to be adding nothing to making the industry more acceptable. |

It was a bit half hearted in my opinion and Louis seemed to have a predisposition for not approving of paying for sex...maybe just my perception.
I agree that the girl being interviewed about her mum could lead to all sorts of trouble for her at school etc...hope it doesn't! (sorry...but her mum was fine btw!)
Not as good as his usual work IMO |

I don’t escort but I do webcam model to make money to get through university. To be honest I find it super empowering - it’s my body and I can do what I want with it and if someone is willing to pay for that then that’s down to them |

Just watched it and was a little disappointed. Whilst Louis is a great interviewer I just felt that he was looking at the 3 women with pity all the time and it just served to perpetuate the myth that all sex workers were vulnerable and were undertaking this work due to negative childhood experiences. Whilst this may be true of some, it's not true of a lot of sex workers and I'd have preferred to see a better balance. It makes me wonder how the forthcoming swingers programme will portray us. Well, not me necessarily, but couples that will be included x |

Did they talk about Victoria’s porn work? I know escorts do porn to increase their profile so they can charge more for “porn Star fucks” etc. |

it poorly portrayed sex workers as usual, focusing on negatives more than the positives. 1000s of women sell sex and they chose these subjects, its always the WGs with “issues”. Overall it was a poor documentary and not LTs usual standard.
