I know there are a lot of women not taking advantage of cervical screening service for various reasons. But it's so much worth it.

I have my appointment tomorrow and won't be missing it. Why not to make it your new year's resolution to go for one this year. Even this month as we all know how those resolutions go

Had a few where I’ve had to go to hospital to get checked out, really scary, so never miss my annual check x

I'm currently having them every 6 months due to a few cell changes and a gene in the family. I hate it but the alternative is horrific.

I had to go through genetic testing too and it really hits home how lucky we are to have these services available to us

Definitely a good thing, also regular mammograms. Breast cancer has a decent survival rate if detected early.

I'm on top of mine. It does hurt a bit more for me but only for a few seconds and the alternative is far worse.

Done - and so much easier now than it was when I started getting them.

They still had the metal clamps in varying sizes then

I need to book mine. I had them every year for ten years and booked it without a second thought. Now I’m down to 3 yearly checks and haven’t had one for the last 3 years I’m bricking it and I’m late making an appointment.

Sadly, people are ignoring their health far to often. Good for you op for leading by example.

Women under 45 (but particularly young women) might also like to consider the hpv vaccine, which protects against the viruses which cause cervical cancer

Some evidence now that one vaccine is sufficient rather than three (saves £££££)

Also worth considering for men (free if you are a man who has sex with men) as hpv is linked to oral cancers in men in particular.

Great post OP.

I make sure mine are up to date. The frequency seems to vary, used to be 3 yearly but I've been told now every 5 years.
