Smarties

Just found a packet of a Smarties left over from Xmas.

Now I remember them being in a cardboard tube with a plastic lid. The lid had a letter stamped in it. Always tried to save them but to this day had no idea why or what the letters meant.

Anyone else remember them or any other forgotten confectionary?

You were meant to come up with as many words beginning with that letter as you could. Right?

I've just this minute realised I was the nerdiest child ever.

Spelling was never my forte as a child. Later being recognised as being dyslexic.

I love smarties or I used to, they don't seem to taste quite the same as they used to. Orange were my favourite colour

I remember that. I don't know if they do it now.. I can't remember the last time I saw a packet of smarties.

I used to like going to the shop with £1 and buying loads of sweets. 10p chomp bars and curly wurleys.

You could fill a smarties tube with 20ps, 1ps and pound coins. That's how I saved my pocket money so no one could find it.

I just bought a twix from the vending machine in travelodge and I noticed its not the same.

Smaller and doesn't taste so nice.

Nothing seems to be the same anymore.

If you fill the current tubes with 20p's you save £12. I have filled 2 for charity's.

local, but not too local

"Remember when blue smarties disappeared because they were made from beetles? "

Red colouring (cochineal) is made from beetles.

The blue ones used an artificial blue colour which allegedly caused kids to go a bit hyper.

They now use a natural blue from algae or something.

Lots of red foods are still “made from beetles”.
