Why can’t that be a feature? Like you can block newbies, unverified, men, women etc can block by age but why can’t you block by distance.
So annoying when you get messages from all over the UK. |

They could be visiting your area though and that’s why they are wanting to contact you, we have had that before where someone visits family or on works business close by to us but live miles away. |

For example you could have someone from Glasgow messaging you to meet, you say you only want local guys and they try and say that they travel with work or whatever. It’s like be realistic. Then you also get disappointed cos someone could be really handsome but they’re miles and miles away. |

That's still a good reason to be able to filter though, for those who don't want one offs |

There are alot who travel for business or relatives meet.. Hence it shows closer.
No harm in asking em back if they seem worth meeting.. |

Personally I’m not fussed about distance, i know folks on here that travel the country to attend club nights - I’ve even driven 150 miles for a social.... ideally my hotlist would all be within 30 miles.
The trouble is there’s nothing stopping you just changing your “address” on here to get past the filters. |

Well yes understand that but how do you know it’s a one off when you first meet just because they live miles away now doesn’t mean they always will, shame to miss out but get it would cut down on messages if you can filter more out |

I haven’t got time to chat to people I’m not interested in meeting and I’m not interested in one offs. The thought of someone travelling to me puts pressure on me as I know that I might not even fancy them in the flesh. Can’t expect someone to travel just for what could only be a cuppa tea at the end of it.
Hate it when they say travelling through as if they’re the circus like. No just no. |

I've always found the requirement curious. Yes, it'll be useful for Someone looking for a regular FWB or a regular FB.
But there are some people on here that I wouldn't mind travelling down to meet. If its going to be a one off or a once every other month arrangement then it shouldn't matter.
I guess the trouble is that given the percentage of no shows from people within the same area it'll probably double when it involves Train, taxi and hotel |

But its nice to chat even if we never meet.
Just my opinion though. "
That’s just it. We all have different wants and needs from fab, which is as it should be.
A filter would allow those of us who only want to meet local people to stop unwanted messages.
Those that do want to chat or meet others who are further away simply don’t put the filter on

I think this is the best idea! I hope they see this and it's the next thing they do. It would really improve it. I know people will travel for a meet and that's fair enough but to have the option to turn on a filter for those of us that only want to meet local people would be very helpful. |

I'm very clear on my profile that when I say local only, I mean it. I still get messages from people in the south coast, Scotland, Ireland, etc. I'd love to be able to filter out the ones far away that want to meet. On the other hand, it'd stop me from chatting to fellow forumites. |

Last night I did a bulk delete on 1,086 messages. Now I block newbies, unverified, people without public pictures and only men age 30-45 can get through as it is.
You can search within 50 miles of your postcode so should be able to block messages coming from outside of 50 miles. |

I get why you'd want to limit your messages to people that are local to you but on the flip side You're on the top of the hot pictures list, you have an amazing body and a cool username. Of course you should expect to get thousands of messages, especially on a site with way more men than women. Yes, quite a few of those men wouldn't mind jumping on a train or driving over 3 hours to come see you or just have a cuppa with you. |

Because having someone travel to me puts pressure on me and I don’t like that. They could get nasty if they travel a couple of hours and then get here and I’m like actually I don’t want to have sex with you now I’ve seen you in the flesh. |

Blocking one by one or blocking en masse by a filter; both being done by the profile users choice, decision and action - or by themself. A nonsensical point. |

I wouldn’t be looking at profiles of people outside of South Wales though.
Like yesterday as an example, over a thousand messages and probably only 300 or so were from South Wales.
I couldn’t even get to messages to look because as soon as I was deleting, new messages were coming through. Now some of those messages from the 300 could have been from people I was interested in but couldn’t even look at them due to all the messages coming in from all over the UK. |

Tbh, when I get messages saying "I know I'm not in your area but...", if it's even a hint of wanting to meet me (and it isn't forum connected), I block. No exceptions. And I can handle the volume of mail I get. |

Exactly it’s perfectly natural. That said despite my filters being more open than previously my box is unsurprisingly free of unwanted messages. |

OP, why don't you take back control? Block all men messaging you. Then rather than spend the time deleting messages and getting overwhelmed, you can simply message who YOU want.

I agree that it would be a useful feature allowing a user to experience the site in a more convenient way for them, if locality is important to them. As pointed out the only way to achieve anything nearing this is to filter out everyone and search and message first yourself, but that compromises the fun (and time effectiveness and knowledge that the person does like you etc) of having someone message you first, which therefore isn’t the same effect as the new filter. |

Turn off the ability for people to fab your pictures, that will instantly reduce your message inbox. Then you can go through the contacts made without the need for a PA and press secretary. |

On one hand it would be good, but you can change your location to get around it and people do move about the country so while their profile might say John O'Groats, it doesn't mean they cannot be in Lands End for a week and looking for a nearby meet. |

It is about having the option so if she choose the radius she wants message from they will have to think before sending a message even though you can change your location. It will reduce mass mailings because are you going to change your location for all the local only profiles within set miles. |

You can to a point already (it'll require some effort on your part).
Block those genders completely,.. then in the search function set your requirements age distance etc and search for those that interest you. Be proactive. Its often said effort in reward out.
Simples.
.
Your choice, you can take control or wait for a feature that may not be implementted.

It’s not a feature I would use and something I could do myself, by blocking all setting my search settings to the distance required.
I love talking to and meeting people, no matter where they are in the country. Why limit yourself, and a road trip is always fun |
