Any fitness experts out there?
I’m currently doing hiit and running. Is it better to do one straight after the other, or leave a gap in between please
Thanks |

It will depend upon you
When I have such a question I do the experiment
However my question back to you would be best for what ?
Best for health
Best for muscle hypertrophy
Best for fat loss
Best for metabolism boost
Best for improving cv endurance
My suggestion is steady state running has few exclusive benefits beyond improving running endurance and generally unless someone loves to run I would not explicitly program it xx |

Not an expert but can’t you do both at the same time? What you running on road or treadmill, can do sprints and then down to a jog. What HiiT are you doing if you’re having to do running separately? |

"You should try it "
That's hard showing disdain for physical exertion is considered witty and cool by some forum members
Despite the fact that regular exercise is statistically illustrated to assist preserving psychological well being
But hey ridicule and saying youre eating Greg's cake is nice is sooooo cool |

The hiit is to tone and build muscle (get those abs back!)
I do a dvd at home which I love and I find it so easy to motivate myself to do it, plus it worked last time. It’s strength, cardio and abs.
The running is an added bonus to burn that bit more fat and Improve fitness. |

Kinda but for some of hit benefits the short recovery periods are advantageous |

And I kind of accidentally do interval training when I run, as I go too fast, realise I’m knackered and have to slow down to a steady job until I forget myself again |

"Either order is fine. Just have to remember that you'll get the abs back in the kitchen not in the gym though!"
Thanks. I’ve got that under control (except for the occasional accidents falling on chocolate ) |

"I hate running. I have to do bleep tests still for work and thought I left all that shit behind when I left school! "
Bleep tests are the worst - a combination of physical and psychological torture! |

Hah, try to fall on it with your body rather than your mouth and get some one else to lick it off. Saves on the calories that way! |

Bear in mind (something I only learned a few months ago) is that prolonged cardio exercise (25 minutes +) not only burns fat but muscle too.
Building muscle is useful for burning fat because it increases your metabolism - the more muscle you have, the more it needs feeding, including at rest.
Cardio can be counter-productive. The best way to lose body fat is through diet and supporting it with building muscle by using weights.
Cardio is great for a healthy heart, improving stamina, alertness, wellbeing etc., but can be bad for fat loss is overdone. |

I've been told by a PT it is best to do cardio straight after strength work as:
1) you want to do strength when you have maximum energy so you can do maximum work
2) if you do cardio when your muscles are tired already, your heart will have to work harder so you get more benefit.
So sounds like what you are doing agrees with this. Personally, I'd say if it works for you then stick with it - better to exercise and enjoy it than worry about the details and potentially get discouraged.

I advise if you eat correctly and weight train regularly and correctly you dont need cardio for fat loss as mentioned above it's often counterproductive, releasing cortisol and attacks muscle
I use diet and weight training for fat and muscle control and cardio infrequently for endurance and heart benefits |

Agreed cardio is not required for fat loss, diet is much more key and doesn't matter how you burn the calories. My comment related to cardio for fitness or performance, not body composition. |
