The old face pic excuse. We’ve all heard it....
Now, I’m not asking you to divulge your job (unless you want to!) but do you think this yourself? What jobs would you understand it from?
I think maybe someone from MI6 or a celebrity but Bobby the bus driver from Wigan I don’t think you count.

Working with vulnerable people, their carers or families might assume things. Religious or religious adjacent work. Anywhere where you might have a position of power over potentially vulnerable people (doctor, lawyer, anything involving kids). |

I think it is more because they are married/attached, and don't want anyone to find out they're playing away. Though I do know my employer has got a policy regarding employees online presence and disciplinary actions could be taken if that presence is causing the company to be seen in bad light. It's not the reason why I keep my face pic private- I just don't know everyone to know how I look like.
Also, I might be wrong but if you use the security settings of this site, where your profile doesn't appear in any browser searches outside of the actual Fab website, you should be ok. |

I've genuinely met a genuine former MI6 agent here. He's not allowed to have a Who's Who entry because of his background in that and the diplomatic service. He sent me two face pics with his very first message. I'd have assumed he was bullshitting me but by the time he told me he seriously had no reason whatsoever to I've met numerous cops, doctors, judges, servicemen none of whom had any problem showing a face pic. If you genuinely believe you could lose your job by being here then I think you're insane and reckless and not someone I'd want to meet. I like chilled, laid back people. |

Not just the job, some people may live in a small community and if identified it could just make life unnecessarily awkward due to people’s reactions to them having an alternative lift style that can carry a stigma. Whether to show their face or not really is a decision that shouldn’t require validation. |

I've put my face up public a couple of times but I always take it off again. I work in a place with a few hundred staff and gossip travels fast, I wouldn't want it known about the place that there were nudes of me online. They would turn up on canteen walls and everything lol |

I can fully understand not having face pics on public view....due to your job, not wanting family or friends to spot you etc.
But I don't understand not sending face pics if you are chatting with a possibility of meeting. Firstly how will they recognise you in the coffee shop and secondly, when you meet, aren't they gonna see your face anyway ? |

Why do the boundaries have to cross?
People have every right to go about their professional business without people recognising them on fab and not being so discreet about it.
My work is work, fab is fab. Separate parts of my life.
I also do work in an industry where I could get fired if I was outed.
All it would take is for someone to have a grudge against me and complain.
Also something goes through my head is picture sharing etc, someone could easily get the hump and accuse me of sexual harrasment, then that is it, DBS gone. No chance of working in my industry without it |

I wouldn't get fired for face pics in here. It would make it very awkward going into a negotiation with a supplier who has spoken to me on here though, so I'd not have face pics up.
I also don't send them until I have seen the other person's face, just to be sure I don't know them through work. |

If someone doesn't want to show their face, in public or privately for any reason, I'm cool with it. Everyone's entitled to whatever privacy they feel comfortable in, of course.
It wouldn't lead to a meet in any way, though. I just can't recognise someone from an ankle in a coffee shop. |

No u probably wouldn't buy something blindly but equally how many times have u bought something on-line that looks nothing like the pic? I know I have.
I think if yr both going in "blind" yr both in the same position and u take a chance. I've done on several occasions and been blown away with striking it lucky. It's a risk I know and can work both ways.
I accept what other people choose to do and how they do it but what I object to most is when someone contacts u and has no face pics in their profile and then asks for u to send a face pic. I think that's taking the piss, coz what they're saying is basically
"I like yr profile but a bit unsure but I will send u my pic "if" I like what I see".
Then they come out with all this I respect my privacy and I'm discreet bla, bla, bla. For me that's a red flag.
I know internet etiquette doesn't mean much nowadays but I've always thought if yr sending a message first u shouldn't be asking for anything to be sent yr not prepared to send yrself.

Everyone’s choice when they feel comfortable sharing their face with another.
As for ‘it’s because of my job’, so many companies now have media related clauses in their employee contracts and could be seen to be bringing the company into disrepute and therefore a sackable offence. |

I can understsnd people not wanting them to be public but I can't see anyones reason for not sending one privately if arranging to meet someone.
I have quite a public job. There's a very high chance I'll run in to people I work with on here but I still wouldn't ever arrange something without someone knowing what I look like. I'd be gutted to think they were disappointed |

Spurs is right about the social media policy.
For me, I work in a public environment, like I guess bobby the bus driver and so don’t want the possibility of randoms seeing me. It would make my job very difficult to do if those I came into contact with work knew.
There are other aspects of my and my families life that I don’t share and public pics could possibly out anyone of us and make that part of mine and their lives awkward. Saying it’s to do with your job is a quick easy way to not have to go into details.
I have no problem sending private pics to those I trust and/or hope to meet though. I would never meet without a face pic and wouldn’t expect anyone to meet me without one

For me it's the mix of swinging and BDSM that means I have to be super careful about any way of my personal life funtimes being linked to my professional life...
I know people who have lost their job, had issues with social services and various other things because of their none conventional sexual life.
Some may think I'm over careful, but I'd rather that than ruin a career I love.
I'm also very open about the fact that I worked in a brothel to pay my way through uni....
If you want to know how many men will meet without ever seeing my face... Hundreds... Let's say 15 a day, one day a week, every week, for 3 years... And they were paying me without seeing my face. |

I wouldn't put public face pics up - because of indiscreet knob heads.
But this is not blind date!
I need to see a face pic if we start chatting.

Other half is a teacher and RAF reserve officer. Sites like this are frowned upon by both jobs, in case somebody grabs a pic then used it against you in some way.
Can you imagine if one of his pupils found his profile. They could cause some dramas.
That’s why we hide ours. |

I think people use the job excuse, maybe in turn of another.
Generally i dont send face pics straight off. I like to know someone is genuine and i have to be interested.
But what gets me is the professional thing too. Professional what? Knob jockey?

In this digital age one should be careful with sharing facial images. Also based on the job role it can be a risk that doesn't go nicely for some, specially when working with kids etc.
