I'm currently reading Needful Things by Stephen King for the first time on my Kindle, and listening to Salem's Lot (read it many times but never listened to it) by Stephen King & Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows on Audible on my Kindle. |

I wish I could do it all at once
Salem's Lot for daytime listening, Deathly Hallows for nighttime listening because I'm a wimp. |

I love it! Slow burner so far but it's keeping me interested. He writes small town life so well. |

I can honestly say I've never listened to an audio book. I think I'll look into it. |

I put them on while driving can be very good but I find the person who reads can make a massive difference some better than others |

I’m currently reading the never game by Jeffrey Seaver, and have the new Lee child’s book and the latest billy Connolly to follow that up with. Usually read 1-2 books a week, such a stress reliever. |

"Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian (again). It may or may not be inspired by a resurgence for my love of a particular thing thanks to a certain amazing show."
I read that so many years ago and still go back to it every few years. It's a fantastic companion to european city breaks |

Just about to finish "Night Trains", a potted history of the Orient Express. Just started "Drueben und Drueben" ('Over there and over there'), a story of two kids growing up simultaneously in East and West Germany.
My "To Read" pile includes, among others, Michael Palin's "Around the World in 80 Days" and "Sextant", which unsurprisingly is about early seafaring and the instrument itself.
There's a few more, I can't remember, but you get the general pattern I'm sure! |

Has anyone read “ call me Elizabeth “ by Dawn Annersdale? Brilliant read of a mum wife with everything and how she went to escorting to keep her lifestyle.
It’s based on real life. |

Recommend the Century trilogy... contrived but well done. Some pertinent coverage of British fascism... |

I tend to have multiple books on the go at any one time. I'm currently reading 'The Lost Legion', a biography about a famous sporting ancestor and randomly checking out a cookbook too - weird I know, but cooking is a great way to de-stress from a job that's the complete opposite to cooking or being creative in any way. Awesome! |

Ms Icebreaker " Currently remembering reading an ethnographic study of shopping to Ms Icebreaker while we were naked in bed today....
In the reading pile besides various ethnographies of shopping currently are Nate Silver, Daniel Kahnemann (for a re-read), Jane Jacobs, Erich Fromm, and a Jane Austen I have to finish because I am a completist.

Jerusalem - Alan Moore.
The Long Cosmos - Stephen Baxter and Terry Pratchett.
Doggerland - Ben Smith.
Also now and again dipping into:
Billionaires - Darryl Cunningham.
Understanding Comics - Scott McCloud.
I Am A Strange Loop - Douglas Hofstadter.
(I do tend to multitask with my reading!) |

Well two of them do have pictures. On the other hand they do say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so all those pictures = lots of extra reading! |

A Gift of Hope
A story about how Danielle Steel helped the homeless for 11 years by just driving around and giving out things the homeless need but it also tells me about how she is still grieving for son, Nick, you never stop, he committed suicide 3 times and failed but on the 5th attempt at the age of 19 he took his own life.
That to me is all we can do for the homeless is give love and a lot are so needy of us to care! |

Very good. But it's a huge investment of yourself. The non-linear narrative, scattered across a thousand years of time, life and dreams and after-life and between, multiple styles of writing, multiple views of events...
There's sections that I've re-read several times, re-evaluating the actions of background characters in light of events from later chapters...
Currently a bit stuck on the Lucia Joyce section, written in the style of the later James Joyce - finding though that when read aloud the apparent nonsense words on the page start to pick up meaning as the inner dialogue of a confused woman committed to an asylum for the great misdeed of being inconvenient to her famous father...
It's over two years since I started the book, I was reading it as I sat by my mother's hospital bed waiting for her breathing to fade and halt, it's been with me through grief and through sunny days. When I eventually reach the last page, I suspect that it will not be the end... |
