I think most of what looks like flirting is actually friendly banter. Fucks happen, but I suspect most who do aren't that open about it.
Where I know about said fucks, any increase in "flirting" is usually a rise in friendliness that naturally goes with getting to know someone better. |

I (Luke) flirt on the forums often. I don't do it to get a shag but to see who is interested in us to make connections. We have met one person through forum chats where I got a bit flirty and hopefully another one is coming up. We want to meet each other, we just have to sort out the logistics.
We have had other offers to meet that stemmed from forum-flirting. It's not about shagging though. I suppose it may lead to that potentially but it's not a goal. |

It creates interest I think, at least it may entice me to check the profile.
If I notice a fair amount of flirting between others, especially on numerous threads then I'll steer clear of those people.
I agree that flirting with almost everyone does come across as letchy

No, it doesn't look desperate. Just makes me think they think they want a lot of attention. Sometimes it's a bit cringe, sure but we all want/court attention in different ways and if it makes them happy, crack on. |
