Hey all,
Do we have any fellow petrol heads here?
I'm a proud owner of a MK3 Focus ST, always looking at the various mods to undertake.
I'm currently visiting family in Scotland and some of the roads here are amazing to drive on!
I tend to find a lot of guys are shocked to find female car lovers! Got to be other female car fans surely? |

I'd be more of a car enthusiast if I had the money, time and knowledge! I thoroughly enjoy tootling around in my little hatchback and coveting bigger faster cooler cars, if that counts? |

Oooo those classic minis sound outrageous with a big old dustbin exhaust on them. It's like a flock of Hells Angels going past. |

I've not long fitted a K&N performance air filter into mine, noticed a huge difference especially on the motorway! |

I drive an A7 Quattro Black edition with 3.0L TFSI.
Ride a Honda CBR1100xx with engine and sprocket mods. It scares the living daylights out of my mechanic. Come back summer we miss you. |

Me for sure, I’ve an E350 Coupe - CDI but it’s had DPF removed, and mapped, it’s something around 300bhp with 600lb ft tq. I’ve had a couple of WRXs in the past, the focus ST did interest me, but this “block mod” stuff put me off. |

My current car is the most expensive one I’ve ever bought bought and every day it makes me smile when I start it up, which makes it all worthwhile. 0-60 in 4.5 secs, 444 bhp, restricted to 155mph (that’s fast enough). Car tax £555 - that is not so good but still, less than £2 a day so I’ll take that |

Used to be a confirmed PH. 68 S-Type Jag, 67 M-B 280se 3.5, BMW 3.0CSi Coupe. Rover P6 3500s, SD1 Twin Plenum Vittesse.
Then marriage, Mortgages & kids came along though we did have for a brief time a de restricted Lorinser BMW 750i which was stupidly fast but the 8-10mpg wasn’t so good!!
Now with kids dog, location etc we have a pair of 4x4’s but both petrol (Lpg) running around 300bhp & one has a chipped VW R32 engine & mated to a six speed manual & is a hoot if a bit iffy in the bends. The other is a 2.9 twin turbo with more power but it’s bigger & heavier. Still seen the wrong side of 140mph in it, not bad for something as aerodynamic as a brick weighing o Over two & a quarter tonnes!
Bikes are where my real fun is though.
0-60 in 2.5secs, 190bhp, 200ish kilos & the wrong side of 200mph can be had for less than £5k now.

Had numerous things over the years, from self built Mini 1275GT's to Jags and various other funmobiles.
Currently just have the oil burner daily drive eurobox (although its the top spec jobbie which i've just spent 3hrs cleaning)- but once i've moved and have a decent garage again, i'm definitely going jalopy shopping.
Currently torn between a classic Porsche and hodrod/leadsled of some description (depending on how much i have left after buying the new money pit brick pile ) |

We moved from Maldon, tbh the only people that need 4x4s in Essex are farmers & the horsey lot. For everyone else it’s just status. If we didn’t have 4x4’s here we wouldn’t get far in the winter.

Lightly modded 330d as daily driver, just over 300bhp
M5 as a toy, again with light mods, just over 600bhp
Plan when I have time is to build a sleeper. Something like a Ford Granada, but with a whacking great v8, twin turbo, go to town on the engine with a billet block etc. All new running gear and paint job. |

A friend back in Essex is building a Mk1 Escort with a TVR Griffith driveline. He builds planes for fun so I don’t expect him to have too much trouble.

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe |
Mine's a bit of a sleeper. It's a Peugeot 407 GT Coupè. Before you laugh, these were hand-built and the only parts it shares with a normal 407 are the door mirrors. It's wider, longer and lower, has a red leather interior and a 2.7 V6 twin turbo Jag Hdi engine, mapped to 280bhp and a Porsche tiptronic transmission. It's good for 0-60 in about 6 seconds and a top speed pushing 150mph, though I've never taken it above 135mph
Not driven it for a while, though, as a mouse built a nest under the bonnet and had a good feast of the wiring harness. It's at the garage, but due to come back to me in a few days. Good job my employer provides me with a car. |

Currently in an XK, second one I've had so must be something about them I like. Previous car was a DB9 but started costing me a lot of money so sadly it had to go. Think the neighbours were glad to see it go so they didn't have to listen to it starting up at 7am every morning |

Current drive is a BMW M140i. Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have one with the 3.0 inline 6, before they stopped building it and went to a 2.0 in the new model. Such good fun, lethal, but fun |

Yep, total petrol head here.
Got a 1996 Pontuac Furebird that I've owned since March 2003.
Currently got the engine and box out for overhaul and going to give them a good paint so theyblook the nuts when back in the car. Couple of other bits to do on the car to make sure it's around for many more years to come.
Also got a 2010 Mondeo Sport estate.
Reasonably quick, consisering it's a Diesel (I know, I know), but it's a limited edition.
Had to rebuild the engine in the summer after the timing belt failed (despite the car having a full service history when I bought it - proves whybI don't trust garages).
Lowered it and upgraded the brakes too. |

Confirmed petrol heads here although life has somewhat changed what we now drive.
We used to own and run a car tuning business and we were pretty successful with the cars we built. Won every event/discipline in our category one year at a national event.
Life threw a curve ball and had to give it all up but still have a hand in now and then with mapping, wiring, component design, advice, etc.
We've got nothing interesting at the moment as insurance isn't my friend after eye ops, etc. £12k for my Audi... So that's off the road for the time being.
If I had to name my favourite car ever it would probably be a shock to most Petrol heads if they saw the list and spec of cars we've had, but its a Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2mpg on hard acceleration but was great to see people's reactions when it launched off the line.
Most fun was probably a Metro GTi. As we didn't have anything ready in time for a track day at Coombe we bought one, threw a set of semi slicks on it and ragged the life out of it. The amount of 3-400bhp cars we bullied that day was fun.

Mk 1 Escorts were built 1967-1975. Are you talking about an incarnation of the Mk 3? yeah it's a mk3 but classed a series one or white lightning was only built for a few years then used the engine in the beautiful and jelous rs200 that's my lottery car"
The engine in a mk3 rs turbo series 1 is a CVH with a turbo, the engine in an RS 200 is a derivative of the cosworth BDT, completely different engines. |

I took a BBW for a test once - a very comfortable ride with a nice smooth clutch and extremely responsive once I opened her up, but a little heavy on the juice and rear visibility wasn't quite what I'd hoped for. |

M5 as a toy, again with light mods, just over 600bhp
Plan when I have time is to build a sleeper. Something like a Ford Granada, but with a whacking great v8, twin turbo, go to town on the engine with a billet block etc. All new running gear and paint job.
V10 m5 or v8"

The reality is that manufacturers are building cars that are pretty capable and well tuned from the factory these days.
There is nothing wrong in my mind with Ecu's and other electronics as they make cars much more efficient, responsive and reliable. Who really wants to go back to a manual 'fuel enrichment control' (try typing ch**e on here lol) on a frozen carb and an ignition ystem that is compromised and crude at best, come on springs, weights and centrifugal force to control the advance or a 3d mappable set of figures you can easily and precisely alter. The same with carbs, jets and needles can never be as accurate and controllable as a decent electronic fuel injection system.
Remapping isn't what it used to be as the manufacturers are generally better at matching components and the tunes. I got 14bhp and 22lbft mapping a 1.4 petrol turbo recently, used to get 30-40bhp average a few years ago.
The advantage is when you start changing Turbos, etc. as the engine internals tend to be good these days so will support a decent power hike before uprating them.
I assembled a 440bhp ish budget Cossie engine for a mate a few years back over a curry and a few beers on a friday night. That was forged pistons, inlet cam, ARP studs, etc. Now you can easily get that kind of power out of a Focus RS or a Golf R with bolt on bits.
Killer is, before long we'll be putting higher capacity batteries in and rewinding motors to make cars faster.
The glory days of tuning and modifying, I fear, have changed and are now a bit of a niche. |

I used to work for citroen for 15 years and I know they're not the best of cars but when I was young we used to get Peugeot 205 GTI's in for service and a tune up and I used to love setting ignition timing and the best bit was road testing them. This sounds bad but the citroen bx 16 valve was so fun. Sorry. |

Have to agree about ladies driving cool or high powered cars is a thing for me but don’t judge or call me sexist as we all have our fetish side. Love a female bike rider in leather also........just saying |

Australia is petrol head heaven, not only is it cheap but their love for the V8 is only surpassed by the America.the difference though between the 2 though is that Aussie cars still handle like sports cars.
Theres huge competition between Ford and GM (Holden), I owned a Ford XR8 bf. A car bigger in its physical size than a Mondeo with a 5.2 V8 that ran 478 hp through the rear wheels.6 speed tiptronic, cold air intake flash tuned and 2 straight through Hot Dog exhausts.
0-62 (100kmph) came in at less than 5 seconds and a top speed of over 170mph |
