Ok so I’m trying to lose weight. I’m back on MyFitnessPal to track. I’ve used slimming world, intermittent fasting and all with varying success. But as you know they all work short term only after trying for years now I do need longer term. Taking exercise out the equation as we all know “you can’t out run a bad diet”. What do people do. Is it really about food prep and eating the same stuff day in day out. Giving up all the pleasures of delicious meals for the sake of a few florets of broccoli and bland chicken?
Happy to hear some favourite meal ideas.
P.S no one likes couscous or quinoa so let’s not |

Why do you think it's all bland ?
You've been listening to negative press.
Cook your own food. Keep the flavour up and the fats and sugars ( including white carb ) lower than usual.
Fill up MASSIVE plates with veg ( raw or cooked ) eat a fist of rice or spud or bread and a fist of protein.
Try not to snack.
Try walking round the block once a day.
Bingo ......
Keep your usual flavours.... chilli, curry , garlic, onion .......what ever.
Stop whinging. |

Spices are your friend. Low calorie, high flavour.
Find a balance of satiating food versus calorie density.
There's way more to losing weight than chicken and broccoli.
Allow yourself a treat every so often, once a fortnight or month. |

Seasonings are your friend.
It's certainly not boring.
Plenty of veg, bit of salt and pepper on them with a drizzle of olive oil they taste great.
Pasta, add a tin of chopped tomatoes and some Peri Peri seasoning, paprika on rice.
It's only boring if you dont make the effort |

plenty of cookbooks out there for recipes for people watching what they are eating and yep unfortunately food prep does come into play. Its a lot handier if you know youre busy the next day and wont have time to cook from scratch. one or two websites in england offer low calorie or zero calorie sauces, syrups etc. himself uses them a lot on his mince and rice etc. if you look at food in the negative then its pretty much doomed to fail. also there isnt anything stopping you from eating "nicely" once it fits into your daily recommended calories |

Slimming World has a zillion tasty recipes, free and online. Their Soy ginger chicken noodles is easy to make and delicious (and of course very low cal). |

I eat plenty of chicken and rice everyday. How you cook it is just as important as flavors !
I oven mine after marinading it in stuff like nandos stuff. Let the chicken cool to room temp in a sealed container before you cut it up/put in individual tubs. It’ll stop it drying out. I add peas in with the rice and soy sauce for more flavor. |

I've just lost 2 stone with WW with 2 stone to go. (since September) As it's all pointed, other than reducing portion size I tend to eat same as I did before. |

I've lost 7stone ..( was 12 stone but let it slip) I never find my food bland or boring. I use orzo for my pasta as it really soaks up the flavourings. I use cous cous a lot too.
I tend to have baked butternut squash instead of potatoes a lot too.
And things like slimming world isnt short term as it teaches you to eat properly rather than being a fad |

Meal prep is a great way to stay on track. I have an app that stores recipes, creates shopping lists and meal plans, it is amazing... I'm very passionate about cooking / eating
Plus don't buy any crap (crisps, treats sweets etc), if its not in the house, you won't eat it
You could always try 'veganuary' during january - lots of tasty meal ideas?? |

What app is that and how have you got on with it? I’d be interested in trying it. My problem is I cannot stick to things |

One of my favourite meals is a cook in the pan chicken dish...
Chicken thighs.. skinned and boned. 2 or 3 per person
Sprinkle onion powder.. garlic.. bit of spice ( depends on your taste)
Spring onions..
Mushrooms
Chicken and vegetable stock ( amount varies as to how many your doing it for)
And orzo...
Cook chicken thighs with the garlic and then add the mushrooms.. season well... ( I've often marinated my chicken the night before)
When cooked.. as the spring onions and then the stock and orzo... stock should cover everything...
Turn down, cover and simmer..stirring occasionally.. till all the stock has been absorbed..
And serve with your choice or vegetables .. I like it with long stemmed broccoli and shredded butternutsquash or stir fry veg.
It works well to take as a lunch and have Cold too x |

It is called 'CopyMeThat'
I decide my meal plan for the week, usually do my supermarket shooping on a Friday, then do meal prep over the weekend... Use leftovers for my lunches at work. I try to make sweet + savoury
You can look at recipes that other users have stored - if you download it, send me a DM and I'll send you my username... I've got over 1k recipes stored |

Rather than trying to create a diet you'll struggle to stick with, it's better to just have a healthy eating habit overall. For me, I eat well 80% of the time and that seems to work out just fine. |

"Eat fresh, cook it yourself, exercise and don’t snack. And then run. Running sheds pounds fast. "
This ^^^
At the end of the day you need to burn off more than you take in.
We run every day (it becomes part of your lifestyle) and we enjoy it. We don’t particularly watch or count everything we eat but we eat healthily (with the odd binge)
Best of luck with you new outlook OP and hope you figure something out that suits you

As I take a packed lunch to work to keep from buying crap, it's always chicken, turkey or tuna wholemeal wraps with salad. Either quavers, skips, sunbites or snack a jacks for crisps as they are lower calorie than standard crisps, a protein bar (the MyProtein triple layer ones are beaut), an apple and a banana. I normally only have a slice of toast or small bowl of shreddies for breakfast and just a normal meal for tea. Combined with a couple of gym sessions a week and hiking on weekends carrying weight I'm managing to stay muscular and lean at 37.
I'm not into eating plain broccoli with a sad looking chicken fillet day in day out and all that stuff that the hardcore do, maybe I could be in better shape if I did but I like nice food as well |

You have to find what you like or you won't stick to it. I have porridge or Greek yoghurt with nuts and dried fruit for breakfast. Some form of eggs, crustless quiche, fruit, veggie sausages, wraps with lots of salad, tinned mackerel, tuna, cous cous pots, rice, dinner leftovers etc for lunch. Then for dinner I eat a lot of fish (either non breaded or the "lightly dusted" ones are nice), steamed veg with garlic and herbs, sweet potato mash or wedges, curries with lots of veg in, chilli, Mexican food light fajitas or burritos, omelettes with feta cheese, spinach and tomatoes. I still have pasta dishes like pasta bake or macaroni cheese but I now have it as maybe a third of a meal with things on the side such as salmon and veg.
Really it's all about portion control so you can technically eat what you want if you stay in calorie deficit, you just won't feel that great if you're living off small amounts of high calorie food. Different things work for different people too. Personally I try not to go crazy on carbs as it's so easy to eat so many calories with them, I bulk my meals out with lots of veg and in the last few months I've vastly increased my protein intake to help in the gym and I've found it's made me feel a lot more full too. I still have a fair amount of fat in my diet which also helps keep you full. I know other people though who eat more carbs than me but have a very low fat diet.
Some people on here still call me fat though so maybe I'm in no place to give out advice . |

As I'm a target member of slimming world and have been for a while now. As you're aware you can have sin foods so use them without feeling guilty. Slimming world is a food plan not really a diet as such. You can change it accordingly. |

Lemons and bucketloads of green herbs are your friends. Swap out carbs for plant based proteins (lentils, quinoa) and pimp them with stock, lemon juice and lots of green herbs.
Pre-chop and prep loads of veg and fresh fruit so when you get back from work and can’t be arsed your healthy options are almost ready. Good luck! |

Check out RH fitness. I don't believe things like slimming world and weight watchers work in the long term for the majority of people as it doesnt really educate them about food.
Work out your TDEE, then eat within your calories and macros. Roughly 80% nutrient sense food and 20% shite. Less likely to binge or have blow outs. No food is 'bad' or a 'syn' |

When training I follow the target member version. But different things word for different people. |

Yes it is different things for different people and you have to find what works for you.
Its the things like free foods where people can eat excessive calories if not educated and things like a mashed up banana has syns but a full banana doesn't! |

The best thing I did recently was alter the calorie limit settings on myfitnesspal. The default daily count was way too low for my physique and metabolism - for others it will be too high. If you can work out what you actually need every day, and create a small deficit in the calorie limit, it is so much easier, more pleasant and rewarding to do the counting thing. |

For me I just ate everything I wanted to eat as usual but in smaller portions. I still ate cake and chocolate and everything else but in moderation. Along side that I went to the gym at least 5 hours a week. I lost 2 and half stones in 7 months and the weight has started to come back now that I pig out again and eat takeaway almost everyday and don’t exercise anymore. But it’s been gradual and slow. I have only put a stone back in in a year after eating all the stuff I want with no holding back and no exercise. |
