If I was in charge of customer care at Greggs then all of my staff would call the gentlemen customers Sir. Good manners cost nothing. Bit more tricky with the ladies sometimes but Miss or Madame are usually ok and yes the minority will be professionally offended of course ...
And to be fair, sometimes tricky to tell in which case a smile and friendly greeting should suffice .. |

"Coming to a branch near you soon but please please call it something else... "
I'm excited for this, I've been vegan 5 years and I'm loving how many options there are now.
They can call it whatever they like, there's no problem with that. |

I am not on a vegan hunt. I eat MacDonolds occasionally but don't like their fries. I usually have a big Mac on its own. I order a Big Mac and here is how it always goes.
"Can I have a Big Mac on its own please?"
"Certainly Sir, would you like that as a meal? "
I then think (did I ask for a fucking meal you fucking cretin?) I know it's their staff training.
I say, "No thank you, a Big Mac on its own please"
Can you imagine how I would feel in Gregg's.
Can I have a steak bake please?
Is that a vegan steak bake or a meat steak bake sir ?
Why are rolling on the floor crying Sir ? |

I’ve never had that problem with the sausage rolls.
If I ask for sausage roll that’s what they give me.
If I want a vegan sausage roll that’s what I ask for and that’s what they give me.

I would have thought trading laws would prohibit it being called "steak". Steak, is by dictionary definition, a cut of meat. If there's no meat in it, isn't that something for trading standards? |

I wish they would cater for people with allergies! My daughter in law is allergic to gluten, yet finding stuff she can eat in food places is a nightmare because even if they offer a gluten free range, they cannot guarantee it has been prepped without care for cross contamination... |

It is amazing the range now!! I mean i remember when i first went vegan 8 years ago there was next to no options and now there are so many it is hard to work out what you want for dinner.
Some restaurants still have not worked out what vegan means. I mean i was once served a plate of peas with butter on top. This was a meal that they haf two weeks to plan. |

I've had some utterly inedible food on nights out even when the restaurant has been given warning. Luckily things have improved over the last couple of years. |

Greggs launched it today so had to try one.. tasting notes in comparison to a Gregg's Steak Bake.
Price was £1-55. I think
Pastry very similar, you can taste the oil and it lingers on the toungue. Bit greasy in my opinion.
The filling was nothing like a steak bake. Instead of chunks of meat it had something more like a very finely minced meat. Quite salty but heavy on the onions which seemed to dominate the flavour. The gravy was generous and kept the filling moist. I ate about three quarters and won't be trying one of those again. The grease lingered on the toungue for quite a while. I would describe it as more of an onion bake. |

I normally find it irritating when people get all up in arms about this sort of thing.
But to be honest, that is what steak means, so yes you have a point.
Different argument when talking about sausages or burgers though. |

Yes, if you are doing it for health reasons. Most of the supermarket/high Street products are not a good choice. |

Why not? There's maybe as many as 600,000 vegans in the UK - and Greggs know their money is as good as anyone else's.
There's usually profit to be made from paying attention to people's preferences. |

To be fair, it's not like the "meat" stake bake has much in it anyway. Might as well just buy the pastry on its own.
There is a reason potato and meat pies are no longer called meat and potato pie. Because there is barely meat in it, the main filling is potato.
Same goes for "cheese" slices. They can't be called cheese slices because there is fuck all cheese in them. They are just called slices.
Off topic I know but seemed as good a place as any to let it out. |

Seems like a good enough place for the rant! I don't get why people get so bothered about meat-free sausages being called sausages. It's sausage-shaped! It's not hurting anyone! Pretty much any processed food is an affront to the headline ingredient!
Anyhow I tried to buy a vegan steak bake at London Bridge last night - they'd sold out of that day's quota the day before! |
