What I don’t understand is the very same people whom do well below the speed limit will do, e.g. a) keep to the limit whether it will be ‘fast’ or ‘slow’ road (they end up speeding), b) make illegal turns, or c) don’t use an indicator when turning.
I used to enjoy driving, but have noticed in the last several years the standard has dropped. Thus I rather take public transport as much as possible, walk (if locally), or bag a lift from someone else. Or maybe I’m just getting old.

The speed or law doesn’t change if the police or cameras aren’t around.
It’s still a 20 mph for a reason - you know children, old folks , vulnerable people etc.
It’s the ones who go over the speed limit who are the idiots because they kill the innocent ones.

I think the idea is to drive safely! You can drive 10 miles under the limit and be very unsafe with it. It drives me nuts. People cutting you off at roundabouts (taking both lanes), starting to set off then bloody slamming on the brakes, and don't get me started on the people that totally hog the middle lane on motorways.

I don't seem to have the patience these days for Sunday drivers.
I get frustrated by the ones who take brake half an hour before they turn off and then proceed to take half an hour turning into the road.
I got stuck behind a car driving at 28 whilst in a 40 zone.
I fully understand that speed kills but c'mon!! |

Yes, I do like it when they ring my office and complain about me undertaking them.
It gets pointed out they shouldn't be in the middle lane (lane two) if the inside lane is clear and I have the ability to undertake (proving it is clear).
Still, I just let them get on with it and keep out of the way now.

I over took a car doing 35mph (according to my tacho) in a 60mph (50mph for me).
She called me a wanker (i could hear her shouting over the wind and engine) and then proceeded to speed up, which was nice of her.

I keep my adaptive cruise control on, respecting the limit.
Bad, dangerous driving is the killer, with speed increases potentially increasing the accident severity.
Until we have fully automated driving, there's huge employment potential for increasing driving standards or paying others to transport you. AI could be put to good use, assessing driver quality |

And they still brake going around a bend or when a car is approaching from the opposite direction.

Some people don’t realise you’re allowed to undertake if you purposely didn’t go into that lane to do so. It’s much more dangerous changing 2-3 lanes.

I think it's not the speed that kills....it's the abrupt stopping.

It's the speed. If you double your speed you increase the energy 4 times. A car going 40 has 4 times the killing power of one doing 20. |

The only one that really bothers me is people who think the speed limit is 40 everywhere. Have a stretch of road near me that goes from national speed limit to 30. The amount of people who think that 40 in both stretches of road is acceptable is staggering. |

No I didn’t say that so don’t misinterpret what I said.
It’s not how fast you can drive it’s how fast you can stop. 20 mph zones are for a safety reason and it’s often for the safety of the pedestrians.
If you can’t plan a journey to arrive in time without breaking the speed limit or risk injury to other road users maybe you need to had in your driving license. |

They are guides telling you maximum speed.
Drive to the nature of the road
Drivers don't drop speed like they should, check your speed.
Road was 40 mph max traffic was going 10mph.. Congestion. Again it just means max speed always follow what the road is doing.

All cars stop. It’s how fast they stop including driver decision and reaction time.
Obviously by your statements you need to re- read the Highway Code section on breaking : stopping. Or maybe a speed awareness course before you kill or injure someone.
As pointed out it’s the difference in the force upon impact with an object that which creases greatly the greater the speed. But you kill that child because you just have to go that 10mph faster ! |

No. Newton laws of motion are not outdated.
The faster you go the longer the distance to stop.
The faster you go the longer distance you travel whilst you react.
The faster you go the more energy you transmit to another object upon impact.
But I’ll stop now as I prefer not to argue with idiots.

Drive in and around the speed limit if the road conditions allow otherwise slower is always better. If the 30 road is clear and you aren't suffering from any health issues or physical impairments then don't drive at 20 so as not to cause congestion. The roads and your car can take it,dont worry
If you aren't aged and visually impaired, on R plates, suffering an ailment picked up during the journey or driving to a hospital or doctor cause you're suffering from something or hurt, then you're on your phone. In which case you're an asshole, otherwise take your time |

I think the OP needs to look at a more important issue perhaps ?
Why do you ( OP) need to drive 10mph faster than the guy in front or at the limit of the restriction ? If they are in your way in a 30 limit it won't be for long ! So a few seconds here or there isn't going to matter is it ? If it does however matter to you ( OP)? Then suggest you might want to look at how you plan your time / live your life ? Or perhaps book a track day somewhere and go and let off some steam with no speed restrictions ? ..
Really no need for all the rushing about .We live life fast enough as it is don't we ? ..:/
