OK Just for Fun thread...Do you remember as when growing up the games that used to be played, this is the time when we only had 3 TV channels no computers etc.
Obvious ones are
Football
Knock door run

I'm too young for 3 channels and no computers, but, I am in the generation of Nintendo 64's and Ataris. Games I remeber playing as a kid were knock down ginger, racing our bicycles, choreographing dances, and kiss chase. I also used to play prince and princess with the lodger's son and doctor's & nurses. Then I hot teenage years and it all went a bit tits up from there! |

we used to play hide and seek for hours
or go down to the woods for the day with a jam sarnie,you wouldnt dare let your kids do that nowadays
oh and we had our own shed that was our headquarters,we would pool our money and buy a bottle of squash and a packet of biscuits
we used to go out early and not come back till it was dark

We also used to play one that was the equivalent to 'keys in a bowl'
You needed to find a girl who was babysitting and use the front room of that house for the proper effect haha
Lights off, room in total darkness and snog the face off whoever you bumped into.
Is it any wonder I ended up liking boys as well as girls ? |

Those definitely were the days! we'd have bugger all yet still make our own fun... and the summer outings into the sticks where we'd be gone all day, and one'd fall in the river and come home wet through, or the lot of us mudded up to hell... hehehe

fishing with buckets along the canal
annoying old ladies by drawing goals on the side of their house
getting day tickets on the buses and riding all over
going to the park and actually playing as opposed to loitering
plucking up courage to ask for a 39p bottle of cider from the corner shop - or to ask someone to get it for you ! |

We used to stick drawing pins with a little bit of dog doodah on the end to door bells....Oh how we laughed when some poor innocent upon pressing the booby trapped bell, thrust the pricked didgit straight into their mouth !! 
No...I'm not proud of it...

i used to like french skipping, there was a boy down our road who used to like pushing me in a push chair, he used to run down the road pretending he was driving a car. once his brother said we should pretend to be like a new forest pony and get on our hands and knees and pick bits of grass and pretend we are eating it, only i did eat some and made myself sick. we used to like catching fish in nets and putting them in buckets, and tadpoles. we used to put the fish back in the water afterwards though. |

Thats what i like about this we all have such good memories of the days we used to make our own entertainment kids theses days have got it so easy i think. |

Did anyone else stick newspapers up the old cast iron drain pipes and set fire to them?
It made quite a sound and used to bring folks running out the house!
We used to tie fishing line to door knockers and watch the bemused looks on peoples faces as they answered the door several times to find no-one there.
We used to tie two doors together that were opposite each other with a bit of slack and then two of us would bang on the doors and watch a tug of war between the doors.
We also did the dog shit in flaming news paper and also balanced dustbins against the doors so when they opened all the rubbish fell inside.

Did anyone ever tie a tennis ball in a stocking leg and then lean against the wall whacking the ball from side to side, above your head and between your legs......or is that just a Cumbrian thing 
Hopskotch on the pavement....if we had no chalk, we'd use white dog shit to draw the grid
And on one still talked about occasion, my mate and I pinched her dad's wheelbarrow and pushed each other all round the estate pretending it was the Popemobile and taking turns getting shot....

Well Im really old but we used to loop elastic bands together and sort of do cats cradle but with our feet. Like dutch skipping without the skippy rope. Never come across a single soul who did this so guess its a Shildon thing |

we used to play pull the rope stand either side of the road and pretend to pull a rope accross it should of seen the cyclists trying to stop .
going scrumping in the local apple orchard throwing sticks up to knock down conkers damming the local stream to make a pool to swim in .tree houses dens and logging for bonfire night . |

we used to collect old kettle whistles and stick them on car exhaust pipes with chewing gum.... so funny when the driver revved the engine & kept getting out to see where the whistling was coming from |

Grand national (garden edges and fence hopping)
A game where you sent people on a goosey to find you with chalked arrows, some bluff, idea being to lead you to the correct path.
British Bulldog.
Best man dead - A group of friends in a line, whoever was on picked a weapon to simulate killing thise in the line. The most realistic death from the weapon chosed was then 'on'
Playing out on the Bauer rollerboots.
Using a tractor inner tube to ride the brook.
Tickybobdown - Idea being to avoid being tagged by climbing onto a wall, tree, fence antything higher than the path.
Making throwing arrows out of split ccane and darts for flights, flung by a shoe lace and knot.
One game the local toerag played was fill a bag of dog shit,light it and knock ion someones door and watch them stamp it out when they open the door.
Stilts.
Scrumping
And a really silly one was hands and legs wrapped around the cross members of the local viaduct feeling the force of the trains passing by less than 6 feet in front of you you, The gravitational pull was a right buzz !

Great game but once we lost my friends so we spaced out say 200 yards and throw towards each other taking turns, a sidewinder nearly went through his hip missing by a couple of feet. At that point common sense prevailed, the tips were sharpened aluminium :/ |

can remember doing the poo in paper trick but with a cow pat and a full copy of the times . didnt know the door had just been varnished or that the house holder was out must say the fire bobbies responce time was pretty good managed to save the door without too much damage  |

We had brilliant games as kids and made our own entertainment. Its a pity kids are so much into there technology with playstations, laptops phones ect.
