Who cares. They describe themselves how they want to, and I have no issue with it.

I guess if it bothers you just move on, they're obviously not for you?

It means different things to different people...so careers in banking, insurance, finance, law, medicine...to me, it is someone who earns a wage by doing a job

Theres no pc agenda.

My interpretation is that they see themselves as successful, with careers, maybe dependable?

Like I said it's how they choose to describe themselves? As you probably know, every profile has it's own quirky aspect?

People who describe themselves as genuine? Who knows?

East Sussex

It means they are both employed in a profession.

I see profiles that state they're truckers, armed forces, medical people, fire men, tradesmen and others.

In western cultures, a professional is usually taken as being an educated (usually degree educated) person who earns their living from mental as opposed to physical work.

Hence, doctors, lawyers, bankers, accountants and so forth are considered to be professional.

Skilled tradesmen such as plumbers, carpenters, masons and so forth who acquire skills through apprenticeships and the like are often incorrectly referred to as being professional.

However, there is a distinct difference between a trade and a profession. This isn't intended to be insulting or diminutive - this just happens to be the definition as seen below.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional

However, given all that, and given that lots of people tend to refer to themselves as being professional - the sentence in a profile could really mean just about anything.
