My youngest came home today and said Callum said that Father Christmas isn’t real. Is he not real mum? 
I just said. Well I believe and I get presents.

My little girl called me out on it when she was about 8/9. I was busy going on about Santa coming etc ... and she just looked at me deadpan and said “mum, I know he’s not real.”. My heart broke. |

Oh no  that's so sad. I don't know how I'll react when my daughter finds out but it won't be for a long time hopefully. I hope your little one isn't too upset. It's a tough situation if they take it bad. |

I tell mine that santa, tooth fairy etc are magic and sometimes as people grow older they forget to believe in magic, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist it's just that a person's thoughts get busy with life  |

not sure when I lost my belief in my family
I just could not work out how reindeer fly in the sky and no one eat the mince pies I made for the reindeer ...I loved the fantasy, reality hit hard! |

Mum and dad like add a few extra presents to the pile."
Santa just does the stockings here and he always leaves a family game, other than that everyone “sends” their presents to Lapland and he delivers them if they’re good  |

I still tell my kids hes real. The older ones all deny it.. yet last year I went to bed and my son asked haven't I put put the food and drink for father Christmas.... I looked at him.. he replied... " well just in case your right and hes real " |

There is a problem with perusing the Santa story for too long that it then can perpetuate the lie, turning your children into liers by getting them to lie to you that they still believe. So that they don't upset you and so that they still get presents. |

I'm guessing mine don't believe anymore (youngest is 12) but to their credit they are smart cookies. They've never questioned it. I never did either and I still get a stocking from Santa.  |

‘You believe what you want to believe, I still believe’ is what I tell the kids at work.
If they’re a younger child, I say ‘well of course he’s real, do you think your mum and dad are buying all those presents?!’ |

My little brother is autistic and when he got to high school people were already bullying him, and he still believed in Santa so the bullying got worse. My mum had to sit him down and explain Santa wasn’t real.

My son told me last week that he knows it's me. My daughter's older and only admitted last year that she knew the truth years ago, but kept quiet because she didn't want to spoil the fun for the adults.
I always felt guilty about the yarn, but now it's game over in our house, I feel a little sad. |

I never want this day to come. My kids are very little and I’m taking them to see Santa tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to seeing my three year olds face. The day he tells me he’s not real, I think will break my heart.

I told my son at 11 before he started senior school as I was worried about the reaction of others he was like mum I already know! It's a shame as I miss the magic but he's not far off 17 now  |

I’ve never had the conversation. There’s never been a need. I know they don’t believe and they know I know so what is there to say?
I still hide presents until Christmas Eve night after they’ve gone to bed. I wouldn’t ever wrap anything in front of them and we still write to Father Christmas (might be emails these days )
You have to believe in the magic for the magic to happen. It’s about keeping it special. |

I tried to get my niece to have a picture taken with santa and the closer I got to santa the more she cried, then she got out of the pram and ran away.. she's always been afraid of santa.
Still wants him to bring her "big toys" though lol. |

Yeah - unfortunately when they become older it’s just about getting stuff! It’s only when they’re ‘proper grownups’ that it means anything again - but then it’s love, family etc - and the pleasure of giving to loved ones rather than receiving! |

I had to tell mine. I figured I couldn’t let her go to high school still believing, that place is tough enough without something like that. I expected tears but she turned around and said “I’ve known for years, I was just pretending so I didn’t upset you”
