Why are there 12 days of Xmas?
Jump to: Newest in thread
So why don’t we celebrate 12 days before Christmas instead of after? if the trek took that long to get there and Jesus was born on Christmas Day why don’t we celebrate and remember the 12 days it took before his birth not the 12 days after he was born ?
Also do we give gifts at Christmas because the 3 wise men brought gifts?
Just asking for a friend !!!!! |

The twelve days represent the time that it took for the three wise men to journey to Bethlehem following the birth of Jesu.
There's a useful Wikipedia article on the interpretation by various religions.

Christians believe that the 12 days of Christmas mark the amount of time it took after the birth of Jesus for the magi, or wise men, to travel to Bethlehem for the Epiphany when they recognized him as the son of God |

Jesus wasn't born at Christmas, it is believed that he was born earlier in the year.
However a smart man decided that people wouldn't convert to Christianity if they lost their feasts.
So Yule was changed to Christmas and Easter was something to do with the rebirth of the sun after the darkness of winter.
The rabbits and chicks represent fertility. |

Along? Feelin like the clever man might have been Nigel Farage..... Jesus wasn’t born at Christmas......?? so all the priests, vicars and the rest of the clergy stand up every year in the pulpit and talk about a load of made up bollocks.... and it costs me shit loads every year buying presents to symbolise the gifts to the figure of worship and it isn’t even his Burfday..... ??????? And then ya tell me the Easter bunny isn’t real as well...... ??????? What next Boris really is telling the truth????? ??????? |

It is all bullshit. All the histories and religions of those times and places get rolled into one.
Three wise men ( hahahahaha ! as if ) took 12 days to get to the baby cheeses.
Starts on 25th December. Ends 6th January.
Me , myself and I ....... see how this is pre Christian when the 12 days began at the winter solstice December 21st and ran for 12 days to celebrate the rebirth of the horned hunter ..... more attuned to nature as were yule logs in yuletide.
Fkn hilarious to see some fat chocolate swiss roll being passed off as sommat symbolic to Christians. |
