Food wise , do you use natural or the artificial sports gels etc. I was an ultra marathon runner..off trail in the mountains and often with full pack and I always ate natural. A couple of things that came up was the 3 SAS recruits that died in Wales in training, the findings were that they were told no high energy drinks or gels because the body uses more water processing them so on a hot day dehydration is a higher risk. Another titbit is a guy hell bent on top times on the trails..he always used his gizmo on his wrist to check he was at his personal expected rate speed wise. If he wasn't he d cracking open a bar..get a boost then repeat on each check if off mark....but he noticed he was putting on weight. The ultra specialists looked into it for him and found he was going daft with them and literally chomping one every time he slowed..way too much sugar. |
