Question for van drivers

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Youre going down the motorway, you catch someone up, you go to over take and all of a sudden they speed up.

Does this happen to anyone else when driving a van or is it just me?

It never happens to me when I'm in the car

Unfortunately, the manner of driving of some van drivers can be a little aggressive at times, tarring other van drivers with the same brush

Also, people often don't like a van in front of them as it can obscure their view ahead

Finally, some people just don't like being overtaken by a van

Happens all the time. Funny one is when you have cruise control set and go past someone, only for them to come back past you and then you end up going back past them as they’ve slowed down!

As if it’s a race!

It really boils my blood. Just let me over take you and I'll be on my way.

It never ever happens when I'm in the car though

Happens to me in a car. Maybe it's because I drive a small car and it bruises the ego of blokes who believe their big car is an extension of their penis.

It happens alot, usually they are stuck in overtaking lane going under speed limit, then only pull over after you've slowed right down and lost momentum before they pull over. At this point they speed up and the van doesn't increase speed as quickly. Very annoying (mr)

I just think people get confused driving on a motorway. Unless overtaking you should be on the inside lane. Both outside lanes are to be used for overtaking.

Some people sit in the middle as if it’s their absolute right. You can get pulled and given points for this, though.

I'm not getting into the middle lane debate because I think middle lane hoggers should be pulled over and shot on sight

But even if people are in the driving lane, they still speed up when i approach them

Yes, drove a van around for six years, pretty sure a bit of it is they lose their view of the road ahead for a while as you slowly pull ahead.

The firm I worked for kindly upgraded the lads vans who spent most of their day on motorways from the measly 90bhp version to the 140brake.

After that it wasn’t such an issue as you didn’t usually crawl up behind them flat pinned going 5mph faster, it was foot down & bye ??

Did drive me nuts before that though.

Yes this winds me up, I have a van and use cc all the time and your constantly taking over each other but I'm staying same speed and they can't decide what speed to go...terrible drivers!!

It's an ego thing. Though a lot of Van's should be doing 60mph on the motorway...that's their limit. Like anyone pays attention.

With the introduction of smart cameras more will need to take notice. My neighbour got done for 68mph on the M1 in his at the start of the year.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Then they box you in trying to be all clever.

It's very childish.

I hate it when a can or a car pulls out into the next lane and doesn’t accelerate! Makes me angry as I slow down to 100......

Or speed up so they're alongside so you can't pull in or out to get away from them.

All cyclists need stringing up by their nether regions.

We know where this is all going, I'm just jumping straight to the point.

HGV Drivers are Road Royalty, end of conversation.
