Well I've just managed to make an appointment to see the dr and what a palaver it's become! Tried yesterday but didn't know I had to ring at precisely 8am - would I like to book one? Next available is in two weeks!!!  Ring back at 8am
So I'm sat at 07:59 the number on redial and at 07:59:55 hit the button and wham! 7th in the queue wtf???? By the time I get through there are precisely four appointments available, wait three, colleague has just booked that!
Wow ... no wonder hospital A&Es are so very busy with silly things!
Rant over and have an appointment ... phew |

Have you ever tried the NHS GP at Hand app? Can usually get a video or phonecall appointment within a couple of hours, they can issue prescriptions to your nearest pharmacy wherever you are.
If it's something minor, a repeat prescription, advice needed etc. that might not require a face to face appointment, I highly recommend it. Frees up waiting room times and saves you having to leave the house if you're not feeling well  |

It’s a terrible system. I work shifts so sometimes get toned at 3, 4, 5 am so to be up by 8 to be on the phone is ridiculous, then on my days off I have my kids so do the school rush of a morning so 20 minutes on hold is also out of the question. I only go to the doctors about once every 5 years tho so I’m quite lucky. |

Last time I needed to see my GP, it took 52 calls to get through, then told all morning appointments gone.
Try calling again at 14.00 for an afternoon slot.
At 13.55 I was driving past the surgery, so I parked up & went in.
Asked if I could see the Dr...
Was told I had to phone at 14.00!!
Urmmmm I'm stood here, in front of you?
She was adamant.
So I stood out by the door, and phoned.
Only to be told all the afternoon slots had already gone!?!
It took another 6 days of trying to get an appointment.
Good job I wasn't actually 'sick' sick! |

My old GP retired, he was amazing. Ran his practise from his bungalow, knew all his patients so well, felt like talking to a friend
Another practise took over from him.
Bloody useless.
We've had nothing but issyes since, every month one of my sons prescriptions is wrong, spend hours chasing it.
They only do on the day appts, no pre booked, even if you see a GP & they say come back next week, you can't pre book, have to ring every morning.
I'd change surgeries, but I live in a village, and the only other one that covers my area is full & not taking new patients |

I wish I'd never moved from my old practice when I moved here, my new doctors is really awful but like you I live in a village and the others seem just as bad from what my clients are telling me. Might look further afield if this doesn't go well today |

This isn’t a brag but a highlight of how inconsistent the system is.
I live in a village. If you need to see a doctor you get triaged over the phone by the nurse and if deemed suitable you see the doc the very same day.
They have a chemist on site to sort the medication side and you can just walk in. If only this model can be standardised. |

I can't move out of our area, I've tried, one of my boys has quite severe issues, and some stupid NHS rule says he has to be within a certain radius on case we need an emergency call out.
Not that we ever had, anything like that & we go straight to hospital

All documented in a film by John Pilger called The Dirty War on the NHS that is unfortunately not going to be shown on the TV until after the election.

Most people can't be bothered to watch though thinking it's never going to happen. It is and it's been planned over many years.
No worries though once the NHS has gone you'll have no problem seeing a doctor as long as you can pay.
Typical costs in the USA are:

We're more likely to have a part pay scheme more like on the continent or Australia than what they have America. And yes, we can't afford it anymore so it will have to change and people will have to take more responsibility for themselves and in return they'll seriously have to improve the service! |

Its all part of a plan to run the nhs into the ground and then privatise it all and run it for big profits.
Another thing they do is force you to tell the recepionist on the phone what is wrong when it is none of her fuking business.
This will put people off ringing up when they have to explain to a pen pusher whats wrong when it should be a private matter between you and the gp.
The gp dosent want you near the surgery from 1 year to the next yet he or she still get paid for every patient on the books regardless if you attend weekly or if you havent been in the door for 40yrs.
You wont hear them complaining about having to take payments for patients they never see.
Many drs nowadays dont give a fuck about their patients. Its all about £££ss
