Yes. I would think everyone has limits. Not sure about the “you don’t know till you’ve tried it” attitude. There’s definitely things I wouldn’t even contemplate. |

I was chatting to someone about this earlier and found myself a little perplexed, as I find the term vanilla a little undermining.
So if your not into bdsm or kink your deemed vanilla, which in term can be boring for some. Myself I’m very open an with the right person I am very masochistic and submissive, yet with another person I can switch, yet I had can be very vanilla and have great fun.

It’s a term used mainly with a whiff of the derogatory for anyone that isn’t deemed to be as sexually “creative” or “exploratory” or “adventurous” as the person saying it.
When used as a non derogatory descriptor it typically means sex that’s pretty tame and typical, missionary with long term partner, no spanking or dirty talk let alone anything more avant garde. Nothing wrong with this type of sex, it can be bloody awesome. |

Do I, Meli, who has been on the forum for far more years than I'd like to admit, think that people look down/act better than/sneer at people who do sexual things they don't do? Hmmm...
Yes, they do. It's like "Oh, I'm so openminded and amazingly accepting because I take a hotdog up my arse while singing the national anthem. Anyone who doesn't is dull and boring but I'll phrase it nicely and say vanilla."

Not universally but commonly enjoyed by most people. Good on it's own or can be the basis of an icecream sundae if you want to throw on some sauces and sprinkles.
I've also seen it used to generally refer to things outside of swinging/kink when people feel they live two distinct lives. I.e. "vanilla life" or "vanilla friends" for friends they know in "normal life" rather than through the swinging or kink scene (not in any way related to the sexual tastes of those friends just a differentiation of how they know said friends). |
