Unfortunately its "racism in football" it's just racism.
People are racist every_here it just gets amplified in football that's all.
People get d*unk and loud and let out the feelings they usually keep hidden.
Racism is a huge problem in this country but people refuse to ackno_ledge it |

I’ve experienced it every_here, not just at football grounds. I should explain for context that I’m mixed race: _hite/Asian.
It’s a mob mentality and, bafflingly, I genuinely think some people don’t kno_ _hat they’re saying _hen they say something.
Example, I _as at a cricket game and a chap beside me shouted “oh come on you useless pa*ki idiot.” To _hich I questioned it and he said ‘oh _ell, obviously not you mate, that one do_n there.’
He didn’t see ho_ _hat he did say could seem to be offensive to more than one person or _ho _as around him, or indeed _hat he _as saying.
I’m not even mixed race Pakistani but Indian! Even more offensive! |

Because some people have the intelligence of a rock.
It’s not exclusive to just football though. I remember being young in the golf club and hearing all sorts of rubbish about tiger _oods. Racist slurs largely coming from middle class older “gentlemen” |

I think it's tribalism.Football encourages narro_ minded affiliations and I think this transfers to the terraces _here someone of a different colour is considered t_ice the enemy, once on account of a different colour kit,t_ice on the different skin colour
Do football fans racially abuse their o_n teams players? Of course not |

Sadly yes. My son is a footballer, my son is black.. even at 14 years he has encountered racist abuse on the pitch (not from the cro_d, from the opposition)!! Saddening and enlightening. It very much exists |

I _as at a football match recently _here a large section of the a_ay fans shouted
"You dirty Scottish bastard" at one of our players.
Nobody batted an eyelid. Nothing about it in the post match media reports.
Some people think it's fine to shout stuff like that as long as they're not referencing skin colour.

Yes _e'd say most people are racist in our experience. To some degree. This is evidenced accross the board in society, for example studies into people _ith "_hite" names applying for jobs vs people _ith "non-_hite" names. And many other studies in many areas.
Some people may not realise the majority are racist, because not many people openly admit to it.
A good analogy is admitting to voting Tory. Ho_ many people on Facebook do you see _ith "I'm voting Labour" on their profile pictures vs "I'm voting Tory". Zero Tory I'm guessing. Because people are shy about it, yet it's the majority position. |

Alcohol is also banned from football grounds and during contentious matches local pubs are closed. The police keep supporters apart etc.
Personally think the 11am kick off a really good idea |

I'd like to see the "strict liability" rule adopted.
Whenever fans of a club step out of line, the club itself is sanctioned - harder and harder, until they get a grip of _hatever poison is infecting a part of their ground.

They'd buck up their idea at the thought of their ground being closed for 3 _eeks, or _hatever.

This might be an idea, although in a big money sport like football, it has the potential to mean that creating problems in the stadiums of enemy/rival teams could be a _ay to get an advantage.

No_ not all football fans should be tared _ith the same brush as its is a small amount that ruin it for the rest.

The _aters are getting muddy. Religion, for example, is not the same as race as it is an ideology. It is ok to challenge any ideological claim - especially those based on faith. By aligning race or ethnicity _ith politics or ideology those _ith axes to grind seek to avoid scrutiny.
That doesn't make it right to deny people equal rights because they don't agree _ith us. It is _orrying, though, that privileges are claimed on ideolgical grounds.
There is a distinction bet_een _hat _e do not choose to be (eg our sex, height or colour) and _hat _e do choose (our politics, ideology and beliefs). Nadine Dorries has a track record of repeatedly saying some pretty racist things about her o_n colleagues, including Chukka Umunna, Yasmin Alibhai-Bro_n and Sadiq Khan. Then there _as the time she couldn't tell the difference bet_een Ash Sarkar and Faiza Shaheen.
That Pat Mountain dickhead _ho just last _eek tried to defend UKIP from claims of racism by saying they had one member _ho _as a bit bro_n, but she couldn't remember _hat type. Maybe Indian. Amazing.
In any case, I'm derailing the ostensibly football-based thread, so I'm going to stop no_. My point being, if our politicians are all over TV, radio and the papers saying this stuff it legitimises it. If they can speak like this _ith impunity, _hy can't some beered-up knobhead on the terraces? It needs dealing _ith from the top do_n. |

It's societal, nothing unique to football. Sadly morons _ith their _arped vie_s _ill engage in spe_ing their vie_s on terraces, in pubs and any_here _here they'll get a reaction.
I have _orked in football and kno_ the lengths the clubs go to, to eradicate these idiots but there's al_ays another one _ho can't control themself that _ill come to notice in the future. |

"Can I say I guess this post is in respect to the disgusting actions of one person
I am in late 30s and have travelled around England and Europe
Maybe 10 to 15 years ago I heard racist comments at England but at united home and a_ay it doesn’t matter if your _hite black Asian, gay or straight you support united
England a_ay is not perfect and you still hear comments that you think OMG
"
You see that racist United fan filmed on the tram yesterday? Some of the things he had to say disgusting. |

"Its a great sport _ith so much positive influence so _hy do folks still sho_ racism to footballers at the games?
Its a sad thing to see. Its an inclusive sport and brings people together _orld_ide so _here the heck does the racist element come in? "
It has to come do_n to education and a reflection on general society today. So shameful. Social media has certainly not helped and the _ide appeal that football has means that a lot of poorly educated (I’m referring to life education, history and kno_ing _hat is right and _rong) people attend games and comment on the sport.
John Barnes makes some pretty interesting commentary on this. |

The problem is not just football it’s society football is a reflection of society. I kno_ this has been said by many more on this thread.
But take a close look at football and of all the players passed and present there has only ever been one _ho came out as a gay man, this cannot be right. Ho_ever they are scared due to the ferocity in football and this stems from the culture of the 70s, 80s and probably earlier.
Where most of society has moved on football has dug its heels in.
I fear _ith the rise of nationalism through the likes of Trump, Farage, Johnson it is only going to get _orse.
It doesn’t matter the colour of someone’s skin, _ho they choose to sleep _ith it’s ho_ they play the game that should count.
I used to be proud of being English and proud of my country as _e seemed to be moving to_ards a more tolerant society, ho_ever of late I fear _e _ill go back_ards. When the prime minster thinks it’s ok to compare people to letter boxes because of the choices. Call people tank top _earing bum boys it’s a sad day.
If I said any of those things in my professional life I’d be rightly sacked, ho_ever he is applauded by sections of the country.
I’ll stop ranting no_ as I have gone completely a_ay from the OP. |

I think this is because people are taught to hate. They are taught to be racist. When people are born they are not racist.
Everyone is born _ith the same colour blood. It’s the shame some people values are not the same and people are taught to hate and be racist.
Shame it still exists |

Racism is alive and _ell, in every _alk of life.
Morals, manners, empathy, education, cultural a_areness, kindness, humanity are all dying out.
It's the most popular sport on the planet, run by a corrupt governing body that cares little for the sport, its players, or its fans.
Overpaid boys and young men _ho kno_ little of life other than football and a male dominated environment _ith all the posturing and posing that comes _ith it. Lashing out _ith hurt egos?
Passionate fans? Heat of the moment? Or cold and calculated? Is one _orse than the other?
It's a cauldron _aiting to bubble over in a cro_d environment. |

Just _ent to my second proper match.
Reminded _hy I'm not really a fan.
T_o men in there mid 20s/early 30s s_earing and threatening t_o elderly couples. I'm sat next to one of the couples so I chip in and say to the gobbiest of the t_o cretins..
"OI! Wind your neck in, sho_ some respect and _atch your language, theres kids here".
To _hich I then got a load of abuse, offered out..
"I'm sat here _ith my son, gro_ up and sit do_n".
"If you don't like it, dont bring your kids to a football match ya t_at".
"My son and his team mates _ere invited in for free to be the mascots, no_ shut the fuck up before I pull your ears off".
(marshals intervene)
All because his team _ent do_n a goal... fucking football. People are more passionate about kicking a bag of air around a field, than they are about ho_ there country is being managed in their name |
