I didn’t realise only 1% of the population are ambidextrous! That said (and forgive the possibly boring analogy), I’ve watched Ronnie O’Sullivan play snooker live on a few occasions and he’s ambidextrous, he switches hands without even thinking for a second about it! Unbelievable to watch! Makes you wonder how good other sports professionals would be if they could use both hands!  |

When you are born you naturally lean towards ‘one side’. I’m naturally right handed, but do plenty of things ‘from the left’, for example playing golf, shooting a rifle. I’ve been playing drums all my life and I lead with my left hand, but play right handed. Plenty of drummers do this, the most famous is Ringo Starr who is left handed but plays ‘right handed’.
I can switch either way quite easily.
Then again, being a ‘leftie’ in Ireland, has a whole different meaning...  |

It is still all scientific conjecture as to why some people are lefties or ambidextrous . I am predominately left handed except for one thing , my phone . I always text and write with my right hand . But then I'm also rather strange |

My mum is a lefty
Back in the day, when she was at school, she was made to write right handed!
Talk about Draconian!
She stopped doing it as soon as she finished school, never done it since.
My Eldest son is ambidextrous.
My middle son was a lefty, but lost the use of his left side, so had to learn to be a righty.
My youngest can do everything apart from write with his left hand.
I'm the odd one out righty in my family

I’m supposed to be left handed but the private school I attended caned all lefties and forced us to use our right hand. It was seen as being socially unacceptable. As I got older, I did more and more with my left hand, such as text messages  |

not all lefties are clever though some are real plonkers too. Saying that on average left handed people are more intelligent as their right hemisphere of their brain is actually larger. |

The majority of left handed people are still left brain dominant. I think only ten percent of left handed people are “truly” left handed, with the corresponding right brain dominance.
